Day 14/30 of Building POAP Global

Sneak peek at the new 3D map coming to our next update.

Previously, map integrators like us were limited to Street View or 2D maps, but we're breaking new ground by being one of the first geo-location apps to harness the power of Gmaps 3D API.

Hey everyone,

After 4 months of development, we’ve learned a lot from our 30 app testers. While their feedback has been great, the app isn’t quite what I envisioned. We don’t use it daily—it’s tough to remember to place POAPs on the go or create something meaningful on the spot.

Our goal was to enhance travel, whether you’re grabbing coffee or visiting landmarks—like a Strava for travel. But the app’s barrier to use is too high. It’s ready for release, but if I’m not excited to use it daily, how can I expect others to be?

So, we’re spending more time refining it. Soon, you’ll be able to log visits without immediately setting up a POAP—become the "owner" of a place and create a POAP later. This will fix 99% of the friction we're facing.

Thanks for your patience. We’ve had hundreds of sign-ups and strong interest, and I’m committed to making this something special.

I've attached some screenshots of the new direction.

Thanks for sticking with us.

Happy POAP'n,

Steve

Woo Hoo! 🎉 We just got a congratulatory email from Cloudflare for surpassing 1,000 pageviews in June—actually, we hit 2,344! 😄

With only a small number of testers, this shows the incredible dedication of our users who are revisiting the site often. A massive thanks to everyone testing the app. Your feedback and support have given us the user insights and stress-tested the app in ways our small team couldn’t have achieved alone. Huge shoutout to all you amazing testers!

Welcome to Day 6/30 in our journey to build POAP Global.

Landmark of the week.

This week, one of our app testers has claimed Jan’s Peak in Queenstown, New Zealand as he was testing out the POAP create function.

Welcome to Day 5/30 of building POAP Global.

New Feature Spotlight

We’ve heard your feedback: traveling with friends should be seamless.

So, we’ve added the "Queue to Collect" feature!

Here’s the new user flow:

Queue to Collect: Friends can now see POAPs on the map and queue to collect them before the location is reviewed! Once approved, both the collector and anyone that has 'queued' receives the POAP!

Pending POAP Visibility: Pending POAPs are slightly opaque and only visible within a 50km radius to keep the map clean.

This update makes collecting POAPs easier and faster for friends traveling together. It’s live in the beta app.

Welcome to Day 3/30 in our journey to build POAP Global.

Check out the photo below—our inbox was full of these kind of messages. That’s when we knew it was time for a change.

Our First Challenge

Originally, POAP Global required physical NFC devices at locations to release POAPs. While effective, it needed permission for installations, which hindered many collectors. Looking back, we were over optimistic looking at such platforms as geocache.

Feedback led us to go virtual, by creating this app as a 2.0 launch. Now, there's no need for physical devices—just use the app to create and collect POAPs.

Send us a message if you'd like to trial the app early!
Welcome to Day 2/30 of Building POAP Global.

Check out the sneak peek below—a snapshot of our Figma board with initial app sketches.

Early Struggles

Our first design was super basic: you could only create or collect a POAP, and there were no confirmation emails. It was messy but worked for our early testers.

Built in FlutterFlow, we soon hit iOS map caching issues causing lag for some users (only a small amount). So, we scrapped it and started fresh, even though it delayed our release and cost us time and money.

Take a look at our old test app here: https://app-64h.pages.dev/

PS, Please don’t try to create a POAP—it’s still linked to our database lol

Welcome to Day 1/30 of Building POAP Global.

Just to bring the new comers up to speed. Starting off super light.

We have one mission:

Bring POAPs to the rest of the world through the fun of traveling.

Who are we?

Steve- Founder of POAP Global, a travel enthusiast with a passion for Web3. Steve started this project as a side venture while working full-time at POAP Inc.

Britten- The community coordinator of all things of POAP Global. She joined the team early in 2023, eager to join the vision and handle all things community-related.

Moe and Kira- Our incredible developers, the masterminds turning our ideas into a working app. Their deep passion for POAP and extensive experience in building POAP-related applications make them the perfect fit for our team.

As we're just starting, we'd love to know what you want to see along the way and which aspects of our project is interesting and you think we should share openly.

Comment below :)
Ok so we may have accidently deleted our first cast. We're off to a good start 😆

We've lost all of the beautiful comments and support on our original cast, but its important we just re-cast this for history sake.
