A Crafter's Cove

Welcome to A Crafter's Cove. I'm your host . Carving out time and space for arts and crafts and hopefully being a bridge to web3 in the Farcaster ecosystem. Bear with me as I transfer content over from /trishd

I love the idea of a personal themed collage for the new year. It can be for what's traditionally considered New Year's resolutions, but it doesn't have to be about that at all. Some examples would be what you'd like to attract in 2025 or a behavior pattern you'd like to change and what the results of either of those things would look like for you. I'm going to do this. It'll have personal themes, so I won't post it online. But do you have a similar tradition you'd like to share?

I'm going to give this shampoo bar recipe a try as I have most of the materials on hand. I'll use another soap base that I have in my supplies. https://wholemadehomestead.com/melt-and-pour-shampoo-bar-recipe/
Current reading from the library, "Respect the Spindle: Spin Infinite Yarns with One Amazing Tool." Guess what my newest obsession is?

You learn something new everyday as the old saying goes. I've been crocheting since I was a kid and I just recently tried using the technique called the Russian join to join two ends of yarn to finish a scarf I'm working on. I absolutely love it! No knots. It makes the piece your working look so much more professional. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvRoDbpFtXc&list=PLThHoVvXTfmyYquDAV07YCi30qgEa3XX4&index=98
Working on some cotton yarn face scrubbies using stitch patterns from a book I bought in the '90s. They make quick eco-friendly gifts.

"So I don't want them to line up. I want them to not really line up and provide some kind of interesting surprise." ~ Jane Davies on Concentric Circles, her latest video. She's one of my favorite artists on YouTube. She's so inspirational in encouraging people to get out their supplies and start creating. What are some of your inspirations to lay down color on a background? (The vid is 3:10 long) https://youtu.be/1Ud_tUlU_-M?feature=shared

If you'd like a crafting body doubling buddy or just want some chill music in the background while you're doing your thing, this is for you. Visiting lighthouses in Michigan is a favorite pastime, so the inspiration for this diamond painting is a beautuful lighthouse image.

Diamond painting is a popular unwinding hobby in which you place tiny resin rhinestones on a color-coded, sticky canvas. The video is just over an hour. The speaking intro is under a minute at the beginning. https://youtu.be/lFx4npsba_0?si=jgYZSLL7kxIa8N-I
I found another organizatoin close to me called Mittens for Detroit that's next on my list of groups that accept donations of handmade items. Do you know of a group near you? Feel free to share it with us. https://michiganfineyarns.com/blogs/community/mittens-for-detroit#
My basic black, loom-knitted hat is done. Phew. I feel hat naked if I don't have one of these. Do you loom knit?

Digging through my yarn stash at the end of October and bringing the knitting loom out because I completely forgot that I had to lay my basic black hat to rest last year, and winter is coming. ❄️

This current project has a deadline. It's the Clear Your Stash Challenge for Operation Gratitude that sends care packages to U.S. service members and veterans. You can make as many scarves and hats as you can according to specs.

I did a basic double crochet stitch for these scarves so I could kick them out quickly. They need to measure no more than 4-5 inches wide by 48-50 inches long to fit in the care packages. They have to be postmarked by October 29 to meet the challenge requirements. However, I believe they take crafted donations year round. You can find more info on their website. https://www.operationgratitude.com/hwl-registration-challenge/
Do you all like unboxings? I've ordered a diamond painting set of cute floral coasters. I'll unbox it on camera.
Welcome to A Crafter's Cove Hosted by TrishD. Please bear with me as I transfer content over from the /trishd channel. I've been mulling over a channel name change, and I decided to give it a go. My reasoning is that I want the name to make more sense in searches. I chose "A" Crafter's Cove instead of just Crafters' Cove because even though all crafters are welcome, I'm still focusing on my interests and inviting you along for the ride (and encouraging you to start your own craft channel if you're so inclined). Please comment if you'd like a member invite.
