Congratulations to the brilliant USC students for setting a new record in amateur spaceflight! Their rocket, Aftershock II, soared to an incredible 470,000 feet (90 miles), smashing the previous record by 80,000 feet. The sky is no longer the limit! #Innovation #SpaceExploration https://laist.com/news/los-angeles-activities/usc-student-team-breaks-record-for-highest-amateur-space-launch
With Earth capturing a ‘mini moon,’ does this mean it hasn’t fully cleared its orbit? Should we reconsider the definition of a planet—or even reclassify Earth as a dwarf planet? #sundaysciencequestion #astronomy https://abc7news.com/post/asteroid-will-join-earths-orbit-mini-moon-2-months-starting-sunday/15371816/
Get those telescopes ready. Comet C/2023 A3 could be a show… or not.

First observations of the sky in Idaho. So peaceful, so beautiful… I am glad I finally came here. #labourday
The sky of San Francisco with my Unistellar Odyssey telescope. Digital telescopes are truly changing the way we do astronomy . #nightsky
Curious if NASA’s ACS3 solar sail will be passing overhead? 🌍✨ Check out our prediction page! It might be visible without a telescope, but if you have a Unistellar scope, this is a must-see opportunity. Don’t miss it!
It’s passing above San Francisco at 9:10pm tonight. https://science.unistellar.com/blog/spot-acs-3-nasas-solar-sail-in-the-sky/

Thank you to Space42 for inviting me to Armenia to the first music and astronomy festival. What an amazing country to visit full of remarkable people and beautiful landscape. We enjoyed the stars, the food and the music. #astronomy #festival
Update on #CometA3 (C/2023 A3)! Just before it gets too close to the Sun, recent @unistellar network observations suggest it could peak at -1.1 magnitude—if it survives perihelion. 🌟 Big thanks to our @SETIInstitute citizen scientists! Let’s catch it in a month, fingers crossed it makes it! 🤞
ETI has begun scanning the cosmos in low-frequency radio waves, exploring new avenues in the search for alien technology. This novel approach could reveal signals that higher frequencies might miss, opening up a new frontier in the hunt for extraterrestrial intelligence. #SETI https://www.seti.org/seti-institute-starts-first-low-frequency-search-alien-technology-distant-galaxies
It has been a while I didn’t test an evscope 2 of Unistellar from San Francisco. I had forgotten how great the image quality of this telescope is on nebulae despite the light pollution. Here 5 min exposure on the Lagoon Nebula which is quite low on the horizon. What do you think? #urbanastronomy
Exciting update from the Unistellar Network: Our year-long follow-up of Comet A3 has revealed surprising activity! After an unexpected dimming, the comet is now brightening again. Could it be due to phase angle changes or something else? Stay tuned—this could be a spectacular show! #CometA3 https://science.unistellar.com/blog/keeping-an-eye-on-comet-a3-the-next-naked-eye-comet-candidate/
What science can be done with the LaserSeti network of instruments. Search for ET civilizations, meteors, and satellite reentries and more… a fun discussion with my colleague Lauren Sgro in our SETI/Unistellar office. #seti https://youtu.be/rZcTnZN98cQ?si=I5bEQR9jrTZKaH7U
A new study by Prof Méndez and his colleagues suggests the Wow! signal might have been a cosmic maser, triggered by a magnetar passing behind a cloud of atomic hydrogen. Interesting idea and the debate continues! #seti #WowSignal #Aliens https://arstechnica.com/science/2024/08/was-the-wow-signal-actually-a-space-maser/
Exciting news: LaserSETI has landed in Arizona! Our new instrument in Sedona expands our sky coverage from 18% to 30%. We’re gearing up to detect laser pulses from extraterrestrial civilizations and conduct more science with our large FOV spectro-imager camera and semi-automatic pipeline. Clear skies! #seti
