Learn something every day about Bulgaria

Today, I want to tell you about the Bulgarian bagpipe or what we call gaida

Gaida is considered the national instrument of Bulgaria. It’s rare to see a traditional wedding ceremony that doesn’t include this instrument.

It’s common to see the instrument featured in smaller village-based orchestras, played solo or alongside a big drum

You can learn more about the gaida in an article I posted in the first comment below
As the owner of this channel, when I cast something here, does it always show up as an announcement in the channels tab in Warpcast?
What I want to do here is also highlight active Farcaster community members from Bulgaria

This is Svetlana and she’s a photographer
I love the Rhodope Mountains

It’s a magical place
One thing that makes Bulgaria unique is the fact it’s the only European country that hasn’t changed its name since it was first established in 681

That’s 1,343 years of history under the same name

Isn’t this wild?
What would you like to see shared in this channel?

Something that really breaks my heart is the fact that Bulgaria is the poorest country in EU

There’s so much corruption and criminal activity in our political system that I find it hard to believe there is a way out of this economic misery

Having said that, I don’t want to leave Bulgaria. My family and friends are here and I don’t think moving to another country solves anything

I’m interested to read what other Farcaster members think about such political and economic issues
Are there Farcaster members who visited Bulgaria?

What are your impressions of the country?
Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It is located in the Rila Mountains, about 110 kilometers (68 miles) south of the capital city of Sofia.
The monastery was founded in the 10th century by the hermit Ivan Rilski, who is also known as Saint John of Rila.
The current complex of buildings dates back to the 19th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of the first things you need to know about Bulgaria is our traditional yogurt or kiselo mlyako in Bulgarian

Lactobacillus bulgaricus - the bacteria used to make yogurt - is only found naturally in Bulgarian air. It was discovered by Bulgarian physician and microbiologist Stamen Grigorov (1878 - 1945)

Personally, I love eating kiselo mlyako and cannot imagine a day without it 😋
I wanted to do this for a long time

Today, I’m launching a dedicated channel to my home country 🇧🇬

Expect interesting and little known facts about Bulgaria curated by me

Feel free to join and share stories, personal experiences, photos from your Bulgarian trips (if any) and ask any questions about the country, the people, etc

I’ll do my best to interact with every cast 🙂
