whenever i'm about to spar with someone that i feel like might want to try and 'prove himself' i just kinda let them land a submission within the first 30 seconds.
it sends the message that "i might still want to go hard but you don't need to prove yourself"
i've started to do it in interpersonal situations. i ask a dumb question and let them mansplane or something. and then later if I push back on something they don't really have their ego fully tied up in the discussion.
