Usually prosthetic devices are made from moulds of patients hands. This is a positive cast of one side of a hand and will be used as reference for the finished design.

Today I’m making coloured swatches for a prosthetic hand. Here I’m mixing the base colour for the palm of a hand and finger tips!

Upper limb prosthetics is very popular in fitness and Olympic sports. Here is a prosthetic arm designed with a detachable wrist unit for safety and easy to put on and off mechanism. The carbon fibre exterior ensures it’s strong and durable while lifting.

Did you know that prosthetics is helped to assist Athletes in the paraolympics?
Para-cycling is one of the few sports that prosthetic technology is used.
The designs focus on aerodynamics, and making it easier for cyclists to have speed while combating aerodynamic drag and resistance, that may slow them down while cycling.
For this reason the design is more streamlined and thin. Think of a penguin and its body shape being streamlined, to help swim quickly and fast despite water resistance. It’s a similar concept.
