A channel for Type 1 diabetics to commiserate or celebrate this weird disease & learn from each other how to manage it better.
Is anyone else using ChatGPT to manage their diabetes? I use it to help me count carbs & keep track of what my insulin is doing to me. For example, I just had it calculate the rate my blood sugar is falling so I know approximately how long I have until I'm low if I don't eat anything. Pretty handy! ๐
UGH, I just realized this throws my timing off, so now I'm gonna have to put on a new pump partway through my daughter's wedding on Saturday. Fucking annoying!
Well it finally happened...I ripped the pump off while I was sleeping. Only took 6 weeks before it happened! I have those clear patches that you use to secure it better but didn't think I'd need them.
Fuck yoooooooooooooooooou!!!!!!!! ๐ซ
Just got back from my 1st endo appointment since switching to the insulin pump 1 month ago & it was so fun! Damn do I ever fucking love new tech!
I told him about this incident where I was already low, but still had 1.9 units of insulin in my system & he showed me how to suspend my basal insulin, so if it happens again, at least I won't have basal insulin working against me in the background!
I can also *extend* my bolus and give myself a percentage of the dose of insulin now, and then the rest 30 mins (or w/e) later. So, if I have 2 heaps of rice on my plate & I'm supposed to get 2.9 units of insulin BUT I'm not sure if I'll eat it all, I can tell the pump to give me 50% of my insulin now & 50% in 30 mins. If I end up only eating half the rice, I can cancel the last 50%!
Can't do that with a needle! ๐คฏ
I haven't done a needle in 34 days! I even went on a day trip to Toronto WITHOUT an insulin kit! The pump is awesome! ๐คฉ

That was scary! ๐จ My dinner was 166g of carbs bc it mostly consisted of rice. My pump calculated I needed 2.9 units of insulin to thwart this meal & shot me up. I ended up only being able to eat the rice portion of my meal but figured that was the biggest source of carbs & I'd be fine.
NOPE!
An hour & a half later, I drop down to 2.9, with almost 2 units of insulin still in my system! (IOB = insulin on board/in your system) I ate some pie and corrected but it was freaky seeing the numbers & knowing "uh oh, I done fucked up" and not knowing yet what would happen! ๐ Is this the time I'm gonna have a seizure or lose consciousness? ๐ฌ
But I was fine. I am fine. I'm 8.4 right now with 1.35 units of insulin still inside me. It's pretty cool that the pump's Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM) will tell me that!
Moral of the story: I need to learn how to finish what's on my plate. ๐

ChatGPT is awesome for diabetics!
I got my pump today! Apparently it's doing its thing! I only understood ~2/3 of everything they said to me at the hospital about it today, admittedly. ๐
Ordinarily I'd be doing a needle right now, but I'm shitposting here instead bc I don't have to anymore! It felt weird taking almost all of my pens out of my kit this afternoon because I don't need to carry them around anymore! I feel naked!
I'm about to eat chips & bolus for the 1st time, hopefully I don't die or anything! ๐ค

I get hooked up with an insulin pump tomorrow! Iโm so scared & excited! Terrified Iโll do something wrong & overdose myself! ๐
Do you wear diabetic socks? I just bought some and they're fine, but does anyone know where to find cute ones?

Ordered this from Amazon a few weeks ago! Currently I avoid taking insulin w/meals in public bc it's super volatile in my body & I still don't understand my dosing. That's why I'm switching to the pump! But while I get the hang of it, I'm told to expect some potentially scary lows & loss of consciousness is possible.
I switch to an insulin pump instead of daily injections next month, so I ordered all this awesome stuff from PimpMyDiabetes.com! The MyID sleeves fit over my watch band & have a QR code on the back to access my health data! I'm so stoked!

It is my medical imperative to eat these peanut butter cups!

I realized a hack for injections is that, if I don't actually SEE the needle go in, it doesn't hurt, which is weird, but it works? Most of the time anyway.
Fun fact: I was born in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. Also the birthplace of Frederick Banting, inventor of insulin. ๐ ๐

What are your hacks for treating lows? Mine are 5-Alive juice boxes or Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. A juice box will buy me an hour from a 3.8 & there's enough protein:carbs in a pack of peanut butter cups to buy me 2. Same amount of carbs in both. Juice boxes act faster, but peanut butter cups last longer. You? ๐ค
gm ๐ I've been here for a few days now & have been checking & checking to see if someone would make a T1D channel yet but so far no one had. So I did! Hopefully we can use meme humour & crypto art to commiserate or celebrate this weird disease! ๐ ๐ฉธ ๐ฆ
