A place to share strategies and stories around problem solving

As the Biden administration tries to bring chip manufacturing back domestically, it's worth revisiting the lessons US Memories learned when they tried to do the same thing in the late 80's/early 90s

Got tired of overbuilt time tracking apps, so I threw a Google Forms/Sheets combo together and it instantly feels better.

Next step would be wrapping it in a web app instead of a bookmark on my home screen.
Every time a new workflow makes an old one obsolete, people get their clickbait titles ready declaring the old way is dead. The thing is, habits are sticky and most people won't move away from their set up just because a better one comes along.
I wasn't going to let another Friday go by without releasing something, so here's my solution to a better Warpcast bookmarking experience "FC Bookmarker Pro"
Via a browser extension, you'll be able to file, sort and organize casts into a Notion database so you can easily recall and share them.
Flat, one time payment of $10 USDC. Reply to this cast if interested

These are problems pretty much all networks face at scale.
Early and long time users have a head start where any algorithm changes usually benefit those users as more people enter. In WC's case, auto recommend/ follow played a large roll in increasing follower count.

The challenge with promoting "good content" is that good is subjective. On the other hand, if good is defined then people try and game it until that content is over saturated. There's a constant ebb and flow to striking a balance when surfacing new voices. On Xitter, if a large account likes or responds to a post, then that will overrule anything else.
Looks like it's no different here.
Shipping next week, here's what you can expect with FC Bookmarker Pro 🔖
A client agnostic solution to bookmarking your favourite casts, improving on the current bookmarking solution in every way.

Finally, you'll be able to:

-Easily search and tag casts for easy recall and filtering
-Have filtered views by caster, channel or custom tag
-See your bookmarked casts in a calendar view, knowing exactly when each one was saved
-Have the ability to share your bookmarks either as a webpage, or privately with others

All relevant data is surfaced, with the ability to toggle any attribute on or off. Your preferences, your choice

Video walkthrough and Q&A next week.

I've been low-key cooking something for the Warpcast community & hell or high water, this week I ship it 🚢
Looking for 2 beta testers to help me make sure its a smooth experience before it goes out.
Only requirements are:
1) You have a Notion account (no subscription necessary)
2) You're an avid bookmarker of casts

Reply below if interested & I'll pick two accounts at random
You know you have a PMF when users will go out of their way to reinstate features that were unceremoniously yanked.
Now if the Merkle team could let users natively toggle this script on both desktop & mobile (while warning that it might lead to instability), giving the user the choice, we'd have a win-win situation.
I wanted to dig into this a bit more, with the goal to see if the Merkle team can make animated PFPs work again with minimal if any crashes on mobile.

A certain % of PFPs still pull from imgur, which presents the images as gifs. Gif compression isn't nearly as efficient as WebP or AVIF & likely is the main reason for the amount of crashes on mobile. Some more on this ⤵
The solution to this is to have animated PFPs re-encoded as webp on upload, which will reduce the memory load significantly.
Giphy started doing this recently and has seen page load speeds improve vastly
John Romero reminiscing about how he would have tackled the making of Quake if he was to do it again
I use bookmarks quite a bit in Warpcast, but when it comes to recalling what I’ve saved it could stand to use a lot of improvement. To solve for this I use the SaveToNotion plugin that I’ve modded to bring any cast into a Notion database & file it however I want. Here's my workflow w/ more in the next casts⤵
More subscription based saas businesses should be experimenting with streaming pay. It’s worth offering your customers the option to experience it first hand. Yes, it’s more of a niche now, but it will grow alongside overall adoption. @superfluid offers a code sniper to easily implement it onto your site
Bringing more awareness to the many advantages of streaming pay over traditional models⤵
Not many people seems to know that you can delegate allowances from a treasury via @safe sub accounts. This is a much easier way to manage an operating budget for your treasury.
Warpcast's 2 image limit is a frustrating limitation. If you're looking for a work around, I recommend Slideframe to enable an image carrousel frame.
The caveat is that it only accepts PDF, PPT & Markdown formats so you'll need to compile them in Google Slides or a PDF compiler beforehand

Popular channels are unfortunately subject to a wack-a-mole approach when deterring spam & bad actors. At some point enacting more rules results is diminishing returns, working against the channel's growth & overall vibe. There is no simple solution, but tools like automod help with managing things

People forget that when you get a first gen device like this, you are essentially a glorified beta tester.
The other thing people forget is that with firmware updates, this device has the ability to be completely different before the year is out.
To Joan’s point: Curbing expectations & having patience goes a long way
"How do you assess a product where the version of what's promised in like 3 years what it could be is amazing, but the version that's being delivered now is dog water?"

Highlighting this segment from Marques's latest review of the Rabbit R1, as it speaks to a larger trend thats unfortunately getting bigger.
A key aspect thats usually overlooked when coordinating global teams is implementing UTC as your default time zone. When I ran a collective over Discord, a go-to serviced I used was DateTimeCord. This way everyone saw things in their local time automatically & cut down confusion considerably

More eyes should be on AnyType. Their decentralized approach to collaboration just got a major upgrade. As someone who's built intricate Notion workspaces for teams, I look forward to seeing how far I can push AnyType to do the same.

"If you want to hire great people & have them stay working for you, you have to let them make a lot of decisions & you have to be run by ideas not hierarchy. The best ideas have to win. Otherwise, good people don't stay."

This may have changed since Steve's passing, but it was core to why Apple stood out from the rest
Moravec's paradox: "We're more aware of simple processes that don't work well than of complex ones that work flawlessly"
If you find yourself frequenting sites with lots of noise, ie: ads, trending columns, auto loading videos...etc, this is a solid extension to have.
It's saved me countless hours & helped me stay focused.
