A Gift of Warmth on a Cold Night
One winter evening, I noticed a man sitting outside a grocery store with only a thin sweater, shivering in the cold. I had just bought a new jacket earlier that day, and though I cherished it, I couldn’t bear to see him suffering. I walked over, handed him my jacket, and saw his face light up with gratitude. A week later, while on my way to work, I realized I had left my wallet at home. I was stuck at the bus stop with no way to pay my fare. To my surprise, a stranger stepped forward, paid for my ride, and told me, "Just pay it forward when you can." That single act of kindness from a stranger reinforced how kindness circles back in the most unexpected ways.
