The difference between law as practiced before the court and law as practiced beyond the court would stun most judges.
The best judges are maniacally focused on getting the right inputs to a legal question, and letting go of the output. The worst judges do the reverse.
We just saw that Caroline made at least one wise decision: she hired Anjan Sahni as her lawyer.
Today coinbase.twitter made oral arguments before the Third Circuit in our case against SECGov.twitter’s repeated arbitrary and capricious denial of our petition for rulemaking, which we originally put forward over 2 years ago. Here’s the original petition: https://t.co/k0n2wwaBU9 1/5
A request is not a demand.
A demand is not a subpoena.
A subpoena is not a warrant.
A warrant is not a complaint.
A complaint is not an information.
An information is not an indictment.
An indictment is not a conviction.
My energy/patience limits on work meals with outside counsel, team members, anyone really: 90/60/45 (dinner/lunch/breakfast). Sound about right?

Four years ago I joined coinbase.twitter. I knew there would be an interesting legal adventure ahead. I had no idea it would be THIS interesting ... or this important. Thank you brian_armstrong.twitter and emiliemc.twitter -- you delivered on your word.
Same old same old same old from our friends at SECGov.twitter https://t.co/ruty7013h5
After two plus decades of evaluation, I’m finally calling it: the en banc courtroom in the John Minor Wisdom Courthouse for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans is our nation’s most inspiring court space. You can disagree but you’d be wrong. :)
By this account, Coinbase's efforts to support a more free and fair economic future are succeeding. And they are right. We’re nothing but proud to exercise our free speech rights by advocating for an updated financial system to benefit all Americans. https://t.co/FcXYWKg3Kf

The first question of any responsible regulator should always be: what does the law authorize me to do? Those that understand this are able to accomplish far more than those that do not.
I'm often asked why @coinbase jumps into so many crypto cases as amicus or otherwise when it isn't directly implicated. It's tempting to focus on our own problems and let others fend for themselves. But we won't do that-- so I gave a talk recently to outline our thinking.
Lawyer: Sui generis = Engineer: N of 1.

Where my lawyer-types at?
