Alright, so after a few weeks of back and forth, the referendum to turn Nouns into a US-based non-profit, aka DUNA, is finally up. There’s been a ton of chatter about this in the Nouncil Discord, especially in the “nouns-duna” and “general” channels if you want to dig deeper.

Here’s the gist: while there are some tax perks, mainly for US folks, there are some catches. If we move forward with DUNA, Nouns will need to comply with US regulations. That means all development and grants, past, present, and future, must fit within those legal boundaries. KYC is coming for grant recipients, though not for voters yet. And buyers? There will be wallet checks, at least for now.

For the least biased version of /nouns channel casts, check out and follow @nouners. It monitors and recasts anything from the Nouns channel that’s been liked by at least two Nouners, not just posts moderated or shared by a select few.

If we lose decentralization and self-sovereignty, we're just slapping a fresh coat of paint on a broken system. Real progress means breaking those structures, not dressing them up with shiny chains.

I think it'd be cool to support UNS domains alongside ENS domains. 🤔

This assumes the risks are real and not just the foundation spinning things to steer sentiment in their favor. To cut the risk of arbers trying to game the system and avoid dragging new members into this mess, we should pause auctions. That way, we don’t get stuck with people trying to exploit the fork, and new folks aren’t getting roped into liabilities they didn’t sign up for.

Hey, any word on /nouns channel moderation? If it's going to drag on, I could whip up some open-source moderation similar to what I did for Lil Nouns. It'd be clear, accessible, and way more decentralized. Instead of a handful of people handling it, we could have it moderated by a set number of Nouners approving it, kind of like cast votes. Way more transparent and decentralized than the current setup. Let me know what you think. @toadyhawk.eth

It’d be cool to share vWR as a link with an OG image showing the vWR itself. Probably not at the top of the list, but still something to think about. Right now, we’re mostly sharing screenshots of vWR regularly. 🤔

Active participation, transparency, and solid communication are the real ways for an onchain community, like a Nouns DAO, to move forward.

Would be an awesome week of governance if teams step up with their alternative ideas to DUNA, get them onchain, or throw in a proposal for us to explore. Could make for a good convo on the Nouncil call by the end of the week.

I’d enjoy a good show, but we’re in crypto space, a space originally built to keep things trustless, permissionless, and censorship-resistant, far from government control. If that’s not the Nouns way, well, let’s see where this ship sails anyway. 🤷‍♂️

The fork has always been a hot topic, and it’s bound to influence the outcome of this proposal. Personally, though, I see it as an early temp check on DUNA before the bigger holders come in to enforce their views. Since the proposal already mentions it, I think it's important to emphasize how this will impact governance long-term and whether it's aligning with the community's core values. A clear call to action might help guide the conversation, ensuring people engage with it thoughtfully, instead of just letting it slip under the radar until it's too late.

I added a new reminder that was supposed to trigger two hours before the end of voting to remind active voters. First time around, it fired off early thanks to a bug in the code 😅, but that’s been fixed now. Shoutout to everyone who reported it! 🙌
