Finished reading, the most shocking book of the year👍
📚 Lincoln in the Bardo
👤George Saunders
I didn't have high expectations when I started reading the book, because the story involves 👻souls, and I was even put off for a while. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop until I was shocked. I admire it! I like it!
🧡Big and deep theme🧡
This book gave me a lot of inspiration, such as:
💡Accept the facts💡
Instead of getting stuck in sadness and regret, it's better to cut the Gordian knot. "Must end suffering by causing more suffering." Only by defeating yourself can you be reborn. "And we must not be ruined." "We must go on."
💡Changeable💡
We are all just a passing, temporary energy-burst.
Every life is not eternal and stable, and it changes every moment. So, cherish the moment when you have them around.
💡The power of love💡
It is love, and the complex emotions it brings, that makes everyone👻 stay in or leave Bardo. Love can trap people, but it can also set them free.

After reading it, I turned on all the lights in my house👻
📚 She just said "yes"
👤Shirley Jackson
I am timid, and one chapter "Home" really gave me chills😨, so I slept with the lights on at home after reading it. But most of the other chapters are not really scary, but a bit of psychological suspense, a bit of black fantasy, and the endings of many stories have a lot of room for imagination, which makes me feel a little bit excited. 💃
I will analyze the psychological state of the characters in the story while reading, and I have become more interested in psychology during this period.

This is a classic English book with a small vocabulary but a lot of curiosity
📚We Have Always Lived in the Castle
💃Shirley Jackson
It started with a curiosity: 🏰Why are there only three people left in the castle? (The protagonist Mary, sister Constance, and uncle Julian) What happened? I kept reading with doubts, so when the truth was revealed bit by bit, I was trapped.
This story is not like a logically rigorous reasoning suspense story, but more like an exploration of human nature.
Why are the villagers full of malice towards the people living in the castle, but also afraid of them?
Why are Merricat and Constance such two different personalities?
What are they protecting?
What does the castle symbolize?
💜I started reading with curiosity about the case, but ended the book with a sigh of the truth of human nature.

I can't stop reading it😭 Very tearful
📚 Lincoln in the Bardo
⭐️Booker Prize winning work
It is about the story of Lincoln and his deceased son Willie. 😭
This novel is very special. It is composed of many fragmented words, psychological monologues, and stories seen and heard.
In other words, there is no long-winded discussion, no connecting content, it looks very compact and very enjoyable!
This book is very emotional and the text is beautiful.
Very heartbreaking and touching.
It must be counted as one of the books about death education.

In these fast-paced days, only reading and buying books can calm one’s mind💜
Today I finally have some free time to rest and read~

📚 The Sun Also Rises 太阳也起起起
👍 Ernest Hemingway 海明威
I just opened this little rough-edged book these two days, and I love it so much!! I got to know Hemingway from A Moveable Feast, and I liked it very much at that time. It was the only extracurricular book I brought with me to study for a master's degree in Paris. After many years, I read this book again, and it feels very different (this is the first novel he wrote when he was young), but I still like it very much. So happy!! I originally thought that this book would be very depressing, but I didn't expect it to be quite happy!! Not to mention the appearance of the book😍

A book that makes me sad
📚 Homegoing
👍 Yaa Gyasi
💜 The framework of this novel is very special. It features 14 characters and tells the story of two branches of eight generations. The settings of each person in the two branches are different, telling the fate of people of the same bloodline in different times and places. In the end, the characters of the two branches meet and search for their roots together.
🤔 People's thoughts on "roots" and their desire to "search for roots" can be seen everywhere in the story. Listening to the stories of the past told by the older generation, or even touching the objects left by the elders, is also a connection with the "roots". Whether or not you have set foot on the land of your hometown, you will have a strong feeling for your hometown.

📚 All the Light We Cannot See
👤 Anthony Doerr
🏆 Pulitzer Prize-winning work
This story revolves around two main lines, the blind female protagonist and the male protagonist with a talent for science and engineering, and the stories that happened against the background of war. The two lines slowly converged from the middle and later parts. Of course, the author is very powerful. In fact, their stories were intertwined from the beginning.
Before reading it, I thought it was a love story, but in fact, love only occupies a small part of the story. 💜Family affection, the impact of war on people, and people's beliefs may be the main theme of the book.

Can I still be a psychotherapist when my heart is broken? 📖
A memoir of self-healing, a history of Jewish persecution...
📚 the Choice (Embrace the Possible)
💁Dr. Editgh Eva Eger
📜a memoir
The author is a Jew and a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp. This book recalls important events in the author's life. The main plot is the author and her family's experience in the concentration camp, and the subsequent lifelong healing journey with scars (severe post-traumatic stress disorder). It cannot be said that she was completely cured in the end, but she gained spiritual freedom and became a psychologist, helping and inspiring many people with her own story.
The book says: We cannot change the harm we have suffered, but we can choose how to view these harms and how to live well in the present and the future. 💜

Two books I'm reading recently👀
One is fun, the other is heavy.
📖"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"
My latest reference book, it has a lot of useful expressions.
I recommend this book to readers who want to pick up English again in high school, college, and after work. Why? Interesting, exciting, and not demanding vocabulary!
📖The Underground Railroad
I had a hard time reading it, not because the book is bad, but... it's too tragic... it's beyond my imagination! It's the first time I understand this period of history from the details, I feel heartbroken, confused, and angry! ☹️
The author writes very well, straightforwardly, and compactly. But I can't bear to read it... so the progress is a bit slow.

📖 The Five People You Meet In Heaven
📜《Five People You Meet In Heaven》
💁Mitch Albom
This book tells the story of the five people that the protagonist Eddie met in turn after he went to heaven.
People who met once in childhood but were related to each other in life and death...
Comrades who went through life and death together...
Grandma who I didn't know but had a close relationship with...
My wife who I missed for almost half my life...
The little girl who was killed by mistake in the war...
Everyone I met was here to solve a mystery of life, so that Eddie could understand the world more clearly (many things were not what he originally thought), understand himself, and reconcile with himself, his relatives, and his fate.

No wonder he won two Pulitzer Prizes and won all the awards👍
No wonder the book recommender said: This book will definitely become a classic.
📚 the Underground Railroad
👍Colson Whitehead
It is no exaggeration to say that this book contains the worst and best descriptions of human nature.
.
"Who built it (the underground railroad)?"
"Who builds anything in this country?"
……
Stolen bodies working stolen land.
……
.
This book won the Pulitzer Prize for Historical Fiction.

Unpopular Research | The Transformation of Traditional Chinese Academics to Modern Academics
"From the Four Books of Learning to the Seven Sciences of Learning"
The Differences, Disputes and Integrations between Chinese and Western Academics
Western academics are formed by different researchers (subjects) studying common objects and fields (objects), forming different "knowledge" about the research objects
Chinese academics, on the other hand, face the same research objects and fields (objects), and are divided into different schools due to different subjects, forming different "learnings"
This also creates the difference between the two - Western academics develop into modern "science", while Chinese academics are reflected in "family learning"

Book title: Hamnet
Author: Maggie O'Farrell
The story is wonderful and the author is amazing.
There are two story lines in the book, with the same characters but different time and space. One story tells the past in a compact way; the other story unfolds the tense scenes of the present in detail. When Hamnet leaves💔, the two stories converge.
A very heartbreaking but profound story.
Want to know why Shakespeare later wrote "Hamlet"? Go read the book Hamnet.

Today I will continue reading A Gentleman in Moscow.

The colorful labels are so comfortable to look at! The new reading method increases the sense of participation and achievement, and it is less likely to be distracted when reading.

📖 Mr. Toad went to see a psychiatrist
👍Robert Debold
“Understanding your childhood is the key to understanding yourself”
This is a whole process of psychological management. 10 interviews with a psychiatrist helped Mr. Toad go from anxiety to confidence and happiness.
The doctor took Toad to understand his childhood and found that these behaviors came from his childhood experience of obedience. Knowing yourself starts with understanding your childhood. Following the ideas in the book, you can know the state you are in when you do certain behaviors.

📖 Tuesdays with Morrie
👍 Mitch Albom
🏡16 Tuesdays of conversations with an old professor (life coach), each conversation is relaxed and cute, and can make people think philosophically. A young man busy with his career and an old professor with ALS discuss topics that hit the heart, such as death, fear, aging, marriage, and reconciliation. Each one makes me reflect.

"Beauty in Paris" | Interviews with 20 Parisian beauties
📚 "Beauty in Paris: I Am Myself"
👩Jenner Damas, Lauren Bastide
This book is an interview/visit of 20 ladies living in Paris by two French beauties on Instagram, mainly focusing on the author and these ladies' views on life, work and love.
Many people say that this book is not worth reading. "Beauty in Paris" is indeed not a very good literary reading, or in other words, this book is similar to some Paris silhouettes, not comprehensive and rigorous, but with a fragmented beauty.

List of books for women's growth | My Brilliant Girlfriend
Author: Elena Ferrante
Title: Naples Tetralogy Series
🌻《My Brilliant Girlfriend》
🌻 《The Story of a New Name》
🌻 《Those Who Leave, Those Who Stay》
🌻 《The Lost Child》
The author is currently the most popular and mysterious writer in Italy. Elena Ferrante is just a pen name, and her true identity is still a mystery.
I believe the author is a woman, as the comment says: Only if you are a woman, you will know these ugly secrets.
The book uses clear writing to straightforwardly explore the experiences of the two girls from childhood to adulthood and the psychology of the protagonist. Jealousy, love, compromise and struggle with desire, anger and confrontation with fate and other delicate emotions and great courage are clearly and powerfully portrayed by the author. In the context of a patriarchal society, these stories of women's growth are shining and particularly dazzling.
