Take a break from memecoins to design an airplane with AI for free 🤷‍♂️

I wonder how much of Boeing’s decline can be attributed to SpaceX and Blue Origin sucking up all the aerospace engineering talent. Would be interesting to see an evaluation from that lens.
Boeing is starting to show a trend of spotty manufacturing across-the-board. Will we ever see an activist investor attempt a hostile takeover to leverage their brand equity and modernize their QA process?

33,000 Boeing workers are going on strike today.

Finally some positive news for aviation safety

Swiss' new first-class seats are so heavy that the center of gravity of the Airbus 330 is moved ahead of its forward limit, forcing the airline to install a counterweight aft of the aircraft.

If you thought traveling first class was ecologically disastrous, imagine now flying a massively heavy steel plate around just to make it happen

"The flight carried an advanced payload suite consisting of instruments for addressing some of humanity's most critical issues : stereo-optical cameras, for creating precise elevation models used to understand disasters such as floodings and earthquakes and how to mitigate them; infrared cameras to allow for prediction and detection of wildfires and to detect methane leaks in real time, representing two significant sources of global warming"

I learned about the twilight phenomenon today. It can occur during rocket launches 30-60 mins before sunrise or after sunset and is caused by the dispersion of sunlight by the exhaust particles as they condense, freeze and expand in the atmosphere. Beautiful.
bought this 1975 NASA Graphics Standards Manual for $24

or who knows a lot about the VTOL space?
Interesting podcast episode about so-called electric adaptive jet engines that is also a nice intro to jet engines in general:

this is a cool slide from a boeing presentation on CFD.
Today’s news are a reminder that helicopters don’t fly. They don’t even want to fly. They merely beat the air into submission
huh nobody posted this yet?
If you’re curious about the space industry, I highly recommend reading this:
https://caseyhandmer.wordpress.com/2021/10/28/starship-is-still-not-understood/

It shows why Starship is not “just” a big rocket but a paradigm shift (provided SpaceX manages to make it work).
