In this audiovisual piece, Wojak made a abstract artwork. I responded to the art by through-composing a piece using MIDI piano and what I call 'art percussion'. Then, Wojak updated the art with code to be audio reactive to the music.

of all the music videos that i have created, most of them for jasmine, i believe this one is my boldest statement .

it's very tempting these days to try to make everything with fast cuts and with luscious graphics . it's much harder to step back and explore the spaces that are the exact opposite .

the visual is a re-interpretation of the material used for performing with jasmine .

'FIFTH IS FIRST' was the piece originally wanted to use for the circle /quote-art but for some reason could not load a video when quoting . this was an audiovisual collaboration between my long time collaborator Jasmine Guffond and me . it plays with a simple approach of using a circle spot light as 'paint' . simple yet smooth and eloquent . likely very difficult to pull off in reality . these kinds of works are very satisfying for me because they are relatively easy to execute . the path of least resistance . but still challenging because while the idea is there one still has to figure out the right lighting settings . get the timing right . key for me was the top passage from right to left with the two spots . making sure that at they actually equaled one another in size as the transition took place .
