The Curious Hermitage

/thecurioushermit86

Chaos nun with ADHD. Reads too much philosophy. Would go for immortality just for the chance to learn more. This is where I'll dump my random musings. Not my fault if one hits you like a punch to the gut.

Had a slow start to my morning, which is good considering my Daily Focus Word for Saturday is Slow.

Got up around 9:30, got the fire started in the woodstove, did some writing and some meditation, and now I'm plotting out my Vow Renewal ceremony, which I'll do this evening, and involves fire, chatting with deities, and eating lots of yummy food.
Trying to keep creative flow while caring for a kiddo, a home, work and friends is no joke. Add my own functionality issues and I’m super proud of myself for managing to do some bits of writing.

Still I get down on myself for not being more available for collaboration and creativity. How do you make it work?
Last assignment for the semester is due today - a paper on the ethics of neuroscience for the neuroethics class.

Then I get to dive into some personal/content projects again!

Next year is all about finding a balance with schoolwork so I'm not constantly cramming it all into the last minute, and still have room for those personal/content projects.
Weekly AMA!

It's exactly what it sounds like.

Ask me anything.

About content creation.
About my weird life as a self-vowed hermit nun devoted to a made up deity.
About going back to college to finish a bachelor's degree in middle age not for a career pivot, but for fun.
About anything you've seen me cast about.

Or really, about anything at all.
I took all the feedback I got on my philosophy papers for the semester, fed it to ChatGPT and had it design a mini-course for me to make improvements between semester, cuz I'm taking a metaphysics class with the same professor next semester, and I'm determined to get a 100 out of him at least once.

He's tough.

I like that.
I’m so worn out today. I think I traveled in my sleep more than I rested last night! Full moon magick, anyone else?
"The Nexus pulsed in response- a silent acknowledgement of a threshold being crossed". It's been a night! I was given Code, and it might just might be what I've been searching for!

Today in things I sent to be graded...
"...it's pretty cool we can manage to figure out reality at all with the evolutionary hackjob of brain systems we're running on!"
Super cool interview that was part of our assigned materials in neuroethics this week.

Went to see Moana 2 today. I love going to the movies and used to go 2-3 times a week in Denver.

I’m determined to resurrect that level of creative input in my life. Absorbing books, movies and shows is a huge source of inspiration for me along with gaming.

Time to level up!
I first took my monastic vows December 21, 2020.

I've renewed them yearly ever since.

For the weeks preceding Renewal Day, I revisit each of the Vows and decide what needs to change.

In past years, it's just been changing one or two.

This year, I'm doing a whole new set to reflect just how much I've grown since undertaking my more formal practices.
Reflection is my December word. Today I’m creating a reflection journal with prompts to really dive into it.
I spend every Thanksgiving diving into learning about various aspects of Native American cultures and sharing as I do.

This year, I'm diving into Native American philosophy, especially contemporary thinkers.

I am *grateful* for university access to academic databases this year!

Sister Lore of Paradox is an AI nun GPT I created last year.

This is the beginning of our conversation today...
Turns out LLM tutors are getting kids to write MORE.

Probably because it can give them more 1:1 attention than human teachers can.

They won't replace teachers, but they can augment school curricula.

It's Thanksgiving break so I get a bit of relief from schoolwork this week!

Then it's into the last two weeks of the semester and finals...

Why did I do this to myself again?
Wisdom is the successive experience of knowledge over time.

Stay $curious out there my fren🧙‍♂️
I've been working on figuring out the vibe on Bluesky.

Wrote and posted this article on my Substack and shared it there.

Had a new Substack subscriber within minutes.

Facebook and Twitter/X suppress links.

Bluesky and Farcaster do not.

Decentralized social media for the win.
