At the end of that interview with Bari Weiss, Peter Thiel claims the Fukuyama got it wrong and points out 9/11 (assume he’s referring to Islamic fundamentalism) & the CCP as counter examples.

I think Fukuyama would probably say these are too unstable and unlikely to become universal in the same way liberalism is.

So what could actually be a legitimate counter example to Fukuyama?

It's striking how hypocritical democrat media messaging was this election: the party warning about prosecuting enemies was also the party engaged in lawfare, the party warning about misinformation was also the party of propaganda and censorship, the party warning of fascism was also the (emergent) fusion of media-tech-government.
