Herbert borrows from Lawrence of Arabia in general in Dune but there’s also some little things:

- Learning to ride a camel (sandworm)

- Getting his name El Aurens like Muaddib

- Water discipline

- TE Lawrence does his own weird Gom Jabbar thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2tQ1qvGNC8
Underrated how much of a life hack it is to be able to subordinate your brain.

Exercise is probably the most accessible and meaningful way to do this that you can start to translate into other things
Great #grindset move for guys is to “accidentally” attach your last T lab test to your job application
Literally everybody from far right to center right to far left acknowledged Biden being pretty much out of it since the 2020 Dem primary.

The center left mainstream libs were the only ones saying he was fine, despite literally everybody knowing the opposite.
Looks like Argentina is already beating some of the short term side effects of the Milei changes.

What is the steelman argument on why Milei is bad, these changes are bad, and why they will fail?

If you genuinely care what Elizabeth Warren has to say I do not know what to say to you.

Your brain is gone
Extremely underrated how often people perceive what you say not based on the definition and relation of words in a sentence but just based on vibes of the words and how you say it.

LLM’s have some related version of this where they sometimes fixate on one part of what you’re saying and it distorts the outcome
What are the most likely options for the main ways centers of power will attack the Trump admin the next 4 years?

- Social justice angle that was big in 2016 is weaker in general for many reasons

- “Plutocracy” fears about all the rich people in the cabinet seems popular right now, but obviously huge complications for Dems there

- Dictator/end of democracy fears? Possible, pretty potent but limited reach of believability

- “He’ll get us into a war” fears? Seems very unlikely and not believable

Do they have any other major options?
I get where/why this whole thing comes from but it’s an interesting gen x/older millennial tell to be able to be nostalgic about a time period that wasn’t subject to the adderall schizophrenia of the internet
Backend devs 🤝 SEO’s

Largest/first contentful paint? What paint, it’s basically straight from the DOM

Cumulative layout shift? What shift?

Interaction to next paint? Instantaneous
One of my most boomer takes is that using screen in screen video on your phone is something like a sin and you need to go to rehab
“Taking things for granted” is a very funny concept. It mostly means “being ungrateful” in 2024.

But there’s real benefits from when you “take things for granted”

Being able to build up a “saved” conceptual model of the world so you don’t have to re-reason everything from first principles every day is great.

It also makes us think where we are is the bare minimum, which makes us ungrateful.

But that also drives progress because we’re not satisfied with things the way they are.
You never have to “do psychedelics” you can simply go to church instead

I think there have been related attempts at blockchain based review systems, but the incentives don’t seem to align super well (people having to pay to write reviews to reduce spam, or trying to create whole new separate review systems)

Just getting off chain data that’s happening anyway, but verifying it on chain is really what you want.

The opportunity might be just creating the backend to verify off chain things and only show real ones, then plugging that into company’s front end for them.

Kind of like a cryptographically verified trust pilot
I was already thinking this last week when I saw a lot of leftist accounts doing “hell yeah stick it to the bourgeoisie” takes on this but the old 2X2 political chart (social/economic axes) just doesn’t really describe reality very well anymore.

It’s 20th century LARPing and reality is just different now
Elon’s red sports car thing was kind of dumb, my suggestion is SpaceX puts a screenshot of the “I just want us to be fucking amazing” tweet on the side of a Starship

The leftist fake tough guy thing about killing CEO’s is very funny for a lot of reasons but the funniest one is that the real motivation isn’t actually tightly held insane ideological reasons, its “looking cool” online and maybe getting a retweet from one of the Chapo guys or something
It is very funny how primitive it seems now that people used to put the same keyword over and over again in white text on white background to rank for certain keywords in Google

Then you realize this is how recruiters do their job today in 2024
Good episode with a random crypto tie in.

The citizens of Uruk (the world’s first city) used “Bullae” which were clay balls with tokens inside and a contract written on the outside. When the contract was fulfilled, it was opened and the tokens were given to the payee.

The world’s first smart contracts.
