"Professor Andrew Coates, a physicist and Mars researcher from UCL, argues that human settlers would contaminate the planet and jeopardise the search for alien life.

He claims humanity should only send a single astronaut to Mars if we ever want to learn the truth about life in our solar system."

I guess this guy really liked "The Marian".

No no, let's not make humans a multi planetary species. Let's just grow potatoes in Mars and look for aliens. What a scientist.

What are your thoughts on X's change to the block behavior?

(Blocked users will see your posts, they won't be able to engage with them).

I think it makes public X profiles sort of like blogs with open comments, with the option to ban users from commenting. You can't selectively block people from reading a public blog so you won't be able to selectively block people from reading a public X profile.
IMO Google Search was f'd the moment Ben Gomes was replaced as SVP, and Search was merged with Ads into the same Product Area (including Geo, aka Maps).

There's a reason why Search and Ads had always been kept separate.
Do you think SpaceX's Starlink satellite network will be deemed a natural monopoly like the railway companies and telcos?
Perplexity is slowly implementing Google Search features. They've got a ways to go.

It's sad that Google Search seems to be kinda sleep at the wheel though. Their AI results are kinda going nowhere.

Not diminishing the accomplishment of launching an in the App Store but it makes my blood boil that it's still a thing.

That the gatekeepers still make getting into the app stores such an accomplishment.

No one says "congrats for buying a domain and pointing it to your servers!", you just do.
Use protobufs, thank me later

I 100% agree that Tesla FSD is not even close to Waymo but the moment Tesla makes vision only FSD be as good as Waymo, Waymo might be screwed.

I wonder if Waymo is already training models to reduce dependency on all of their expensive hardware.
What's the thing that frustrates you the most from the conventional DM and group chat UI/functionality that most apps use (Telegram, WhatsApp, X, Warpcast, etc.) ?
This week I
- specced the upcoming /warpcast DC APIs.
- fixed a few DC bugs
- identified some changes and cleanups to make in preparation for DC APIs
Is it me or is the Tesla Livestream just electronic music so far?
Great to see other clients use the DC intent.

As mentioning the /fc-devs day and recent call. We're working on more DC APIs this year and even more next year.

Use the DC intent and the send DC API in the meantime. https://docs.farcaster.xyz/reference/warpcast/direct-casts
Then, only AIs will remain.
Theme park characters shouldn't have to tell you to watch your kids because you're on your phone (whether you're recording or not).

Google Search's ENS support just landed... *checks calendar*... 2.5 years after I proposed it!

At least Google Search eventually did it. Chrome, not so much.

It's kinda funny to see Googlers/Xooglers win Nobel prices in physics and chemistry.

Software is truly eating the world.
It seems there's always drama in the world of open source and public goods.

Money is a strong incentive to switch from non-profit to for-profit (OpenAI), to switch from an OSS license to a more restrictive one (Redis), to "fork" a OSS project and raise money on promises to build commercial stuff on top of the "fork" (PearAI), to add a proprietary layer on-top to force companies to follow your rules even if the underlying system is open (Android/Google Play), to try to get a cut from companies making money out of a OSS project you created/maintain (Automattic), etc.

PSA for channel owners and moderators.

Be mindful of the "notify" button on channel pinned casts. Getting too many notifications can lead to churn.
