Building is easy. Shipping is hard.
Excited for large language models to bring natural language processing to search. I have to imagine a lot of the obstacle to having more advanced search of your photos for example is the UX. The more complicated the query you enable, the more arcane the query language has to get. Most people aren't going to bother to learn it so it doesn't make sense to build. An LLM can effectively parse your word vomit into a query it can then execute on.
I wonder what percentage of farcaster traffic right now is all channels migration debate/discussion. A topic that consumes those of us who are here but a use case that is completely irrelevant to the majority who matter, those that have yet to arrive.
If the channels as public group chats experiment goes decently well, I’d like to recommend an adjustment to the name space issue of the current implementation. If it’s all about the community someone builds, then minimize the name squatting and first mover advantage. My 2 cents.
I respect the bet on changing how channels work. It's an acknowledgement that farcaster usage right now may have been satisfactory for some but it's not really working yet. As such, you have to break some stuff to try and get out of a local maximum.
I’d love to see the engagement numbers as this channels experiment plays out. I can’t be the only person unfollowing channels I used to participate in because I can’t be bothered to figure out the specific membership rules or method to reconnect.
"There is a popular meme that this meeting should have been an email. Why wasn't it an email? Because people frequently convey information in a way that is most comfortable and convenient for the conveyor. Current LLMs now provide unprecedented versatility in tailoring the form of a message as either sender or receiver and it will provide significant leverage to those who thoughtfully deploy it. We all have particular preferences for how we create and consume information. Now we can more easily serve wider audiences."

It's continuously wild to me the things you have to teach your child. I remember being surprised at the realization of how much coordination it takes for a child to learn to jump. Pressing off equally and powerfully with both feet is something you have to learn.

I remember being shocked how many times I needed to explain that they shouldn't pee in the bathwater. And separately but also related that they shouldn't drink the bathwater. That just seems obvious.

Now, at 10 and 7, they will not flush a toilet unless asked repeatedly. And that they will just walk right out of dirty clothes and never look back.

So much is cultural rather than just natural. So much nurture rather than nature.

If it hasn't been mentioned here yet, Spotify family. Not that you'll get to listen to any of your music for a while, but if you want to keep the assorted jingles for your kids separate from your music, Spotify family with an account for you, your partner and the kids is a must.
One halloween my whole family dressed up as the Darth Vader (my daughter) and storm troopers (myself, my wife, my son and our nanny). We trick or treated as I played the imperial march on Spotify.
1. Awesome
2. WRECKED my Spotify recommendations for a while
3. 🤷‍♂️ Worth it
I always love this quote.

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea."

Reflecting on my 30-day writing challenge, I've discovered the power of focusing on process over results. By committing to publish daily, regardless of content quality, I've unlocked greater opportunities for success than obsessing about perfection ever could. This approach isn't just about writing—it's a sustainable pathway to achieving long-term goals in any field. From hit-making musicians to app developers, success often comes from honing the craft and refining the process. Learn why dedicating yourself to the journey, not just the destination, might be the key to reaching your goals.

NYC, for real, phone calls on the bus? AITA? My feel is quarters are too close for that. I don’t want you in my ear having your conversation. I vow that the next person to do this on speaker phone will get the benefits of me chiming in on the call. Clearly you wanted to share. #B52
Just building my first LLM-powered app, and it's revolutionizing my approach to software development. As someone with many years of experience building software first directly and then as a part of teams, I thought I knew what to expect. I was wrong.

The potential is mind-blowing, especially for small teams. But it comes with significant challenges:

1. Rethinking design, testing, and debugging processes
2. Dealing with the imprecision of natural language
3. Ensuring reliability and consistency in AI-augmented systems

It's breaking my brain a bit, but also opening up exciting possibilities. I now have more empathy for big tech's publicized AI missteps.

It's early days for both me and this tech. One thing's clear: we need to adapt, fast. And so many exciting opportunities.

You think they will have a second debate? Trump now has something to prove. But he may not think he can pull it off.
AI writing tools are game-changers, but their effectiveness can hinge on your expertise, particularly in more subjective areas. The more you understand your craft, the better you can guide LLMs. It's not just about prompts—it's about speaking the language of creation. Master this, and you'll unlock unprecedented productivity and creativity.

Web3 social platforms like Farcaster offer revolutionary tech but struggle to bridge the gap with mainstream users. My latest piece explores this challenge and proposes solutions.

Key points:
- Disconnect between Web3 ideals and user priorities
- Balancing blockchain benefits with user-friendly experiences
- Farcaster case study: $1/month cost as an adoption hurdle

Conclusions:
- Web3 platforms need unique success metrics
- Create engaging experiences with Web3 as an enhancement, not the focus
- Lead with user value, integrate blockchain seamlessly
- Progress is happening, but we're not there yet
- The future of Web3 social might redefine "mainstream adoption"

How do you see Web3 social evolving?

Is AI cheapening creativity or evolving it?

AI tools are reshaping content creation, but excellence still demands human skill. Let's explore how this new tech is changing the game—not ending it.

Love what everyone is doing in /firstdraft. I only discovered it after I started but I'm for whatever gets people started. 🫡

"Writing in public has been on my mind for a while. The process of writing and sharing is powerful, and with the rapid advancements in AI, it's becoming even more crucial. AI and other technological advancements are making content creation more accessible than ever. In this landscape of abundant content, building a brand and an audience becomes a crucial differentiator. Your unique voice and perspective are what will set you apart."
I imagine not a top priority, but an API so someone could write an Obsidian Paragraph plugin would be pretty nice. Being able to create a new draft from a note would be great. Being able to push updates would be even better. Or perhaps to pull back changes. Just thoughts.
Claude's artifacts feature, now free for all users, demonstrates a crucial step in operationalizing large language models. These interactive windows allow users to directly engage with AI-generated content - from editable documents to live code with previews. By bridging the gap between AI output and practical application, artifacts showcase the tangible impact of advanced AI in everyday tasks. I'm excited to see these windows of dynamic creation integrated everywhere, from email clients to presentation software, revolutionizing how we interact with and create content.
