Big shoutouts to @esteez.eth, @dylsteck.eth, and others who helped out with the main events at Farcon!

My favorite parts of the weekend were side events that had specific activities and audiences that extended beyond crypto. The Forever Library event (@amelie @debbie), Bracket’s beer pong tournament (@tldr @passafiume.eth @maxp.eth), and yoga & oysters (@loriann) were highlights for me.

Maybe it’s because I’m an introvert, and it’s preferable to have something to do while mingling. But I also think it’s valuable for us, as a social network, to expand our own horizons. I met several people at events this weekend who weren’t very active on Farcaster – or hadn’t heard of it at all! – that became more interested in what we’re building here. They wouldn’t have attended a generic crypto-oriented mixer, but an adjacent event served as a warm (re)introduction.
What’s been stark to me about the Clanker news is how different the reaction has been to it than other negative press in crypto

@proxystudio.eth has done a ton for Farcaster and Base ecosystems with his work here in such a short time. With all that’s gone down I might prefer not to meet Proxy.. but not for reasons you might think

What makes FarCon So Special? (🧵)


Farcasters are special. Y’all are my kind of nerds. We are the innovator class. We are the trailblazers who are super open minded and eager to try all of the new things. We are driven and motivated and for a handful of days, many of us converged into one place and got to hang out as humans.

We worked, we played, we ranted, we connected, we broke bread, we gave hugs, and most importantly we put faces to the pfps and realized that every person we met was an awesome human doing cool things.

We went from magic internet friends to real friends. We had incredible moments, made connections, and strengthened our bonds in a way we just can’t do over text.

The URL to IRL pipeline is key and must be protected at all costs.

The Summit was outstanding but the side events, shared Ubers /subway rides, coffees and dinners were the stars of the week.

I've been using Sublime for over a year now - it's brilliant. Here's my review on a product I use everyday and intend to use more in the future:

The past several days were a test of my sanity.

I don’t want to complain too much, because some people have it much worse, but it was one of those weeks where each development further destabilized an already fragile situation. Starting a new job with a puppy at home was chaotic enough before the living room started leaking and collapsing, right as family came to town for the half marathon this weekend.

I’ve run through the gauntlet of emotions: fear, pride, rage, embarrassment, gratitude. The one constant was overwhelm.

Everything is (going to be) okay, but this level of tension can leave a scar. Ultimately these stretches of life produce the strongest memories. It’s up to us to choose how we remember them.

** Positive Sumcaster ** (my /firstdraft )

I don't think I heard the phrase 'positive-sum' before web3. And I never knew what it meant before Farcaster.

You could say it's 'everybody wins,' but I think it's more correctly that 'normally' (in zero sum) there is a pie of resources & we fight for it. If I get 10%, you won't. In positive-sum, it's not just that we all get some pie, but that we are increasing the pie size through our collective resources & efforts.

We could list regular positive-sum efforts on FC, but this week highlighted it in 4K. I didn't see the 'Farcaster Crowdfund' mini app created by @nicholas & @seedclub until @bertwurst.eth did the fundraiser for @klusya 's Lada. And then the explosion. I saw someone joke, 'When did we become GoFundMe?' But it struck me that this is the expression of positive-sum. @anemale.eth is suffering w/ Jungle in surgery. @ifeoluwafavour desperately needs a phone for work & gets it! And numerous others I can't think of atm.

I’m an introvert, but I love people. As much as I like 1:1 and small group interactions, I love being *around* people more than being with them.

It’s why I love living in New York, and being in cities in general. I’m quickly drained at a party of mutual connections, where I need to plausibly interact with anyone – but feel fully alive in while floating in a sea of strangers, at the coffee shop or the park.

I think this is also why I like the internet. I’m okay not actually meeting (let alone becoming close friends with) the vast majority of the people I interact with here. Most of you will remain relative strangers, but I cherish the small interactions we’ll share as our lives inevitably unfold in their own directions.
I’m realizing the solution to scarcity is actually to give more, not close off and try to hoard what I have. Scarcity is a feeling and I conquer it by realizing the truth of abundance. I already have more than I need. It’s described in Proverbs 11:24-25:

“One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Scarcity is a fear that there won’t be enough, and the natural response to that is to stockpile what I have. To give in the face of this fear is counterintuitive but it’s actually the solution. It’s the same concept described in 1 Peter 3:9:

“Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.”

These concepts have taken me years to understand. The flip side of the coin is the solution. Our natural instinct in the case of

I have a love/hate relationship with DonKi. I love the mascot. The jingle is cute. I find all the things I don’t need in its crammed little isles. It’s a haven for tourists and I lose $50 each time I step inside. But sometimes, it overwhelms my brain and I end up hating every moment I’m trapped inside.

Buyer beware. You may leave a part of your soul behind while hunting for the convenience of everything in one place.

For the Americans, a DonKi is like if a Target, Walgreens, Bed Bath Beyond, an OG Sears, and a grocery store had a baby. Need a washing machine at 3 AM? Liquor? Skin care? Medicine? Green onions? A knife? New hair dryer? A futon for your unexpected guest? DonKi has your back.

When I need to do a /skincare haul, I find myself here because the selection of masks and unbeatable and they have most major brands whereas many drug stores have a smaller selection.

This is the second script for a three minute long video script.

Knowing how long it is going to be beforehand is a different game, than writing newsletters or fiction.

Since it is time limited, the pace of the story has to be faster.

I kind of like writing like that.
Gives more spice to the story.

And I discovered in my earlier stories I didn't have a core message, or a proper story arc., which made my storie feel loose.

In my future stories I try to throw more an eye on that.

I've seen posts about the joy @bertwurst.eth brings to @raynaa & @thedude sent him a toy. @erica asked if it's weird to be digital bff with a dachshund. I'm in that camp as are others. I'm going to step it up & say that Bert is also like a counselor.

Here's the secret: He shows us how to 'do Farcaster' (& life) with fun, kindness, balance, & joy.

Bert is a great FCer. He's top of the leaderboard. He pays it forward w/ tips, rodeo, & hypersubs. He has one of the best threads on how to succeed at FC. I genuinely think he's a great follow for a new FCer or an OG. I suspect many FCers have just passed by thinking he's cute, not knowing this reality.

This is what a counselor does--help us to do life together w/ fun & laughter AND to do life well & to help others & celebrate the wins. Normally that costs about $150/hr, here it's free.

Today is Day One at my new job – the first time I’ve had full-time employment in 22 months. This past chapter was a mix of contracting, freelancing, bootstrapping, tinkering, advising, and general exploring.

It is true that not all who wander are lost, but at many times throughout this period, I felt that way. After being laid off in June 2023, just six months into my job, I needed a break from corporate life and felt destined to explore more independent paths. The past two years have been stimulating yet professionally isolating, full of possibilities but devoid of structure. I’m excited about the new constraints I’ve chosen for myself.
Todays i made list of things i will do from now on.
1. Learn more about web3.
2. Post on twitter and wrapcast.
3. Create a short film with ai.
4. Learn how to make mini app.
5. Start making my portfolio.
6. Learn ai and designing collaborations.

Hope i will not procrastinate again.

A little over a month ago, I went to a Vipassana course
- a 10-day silent meditation retreat known for its intensity, structure, and strict discipline.

I left on Day 6.

Not because the sitting was too much.
Not because I couldn’t handle the silence.
Not because I was rebelling.

I left because at some point I had to choose my values over discipline & traditions. I had to follow my own path rather than someone else's.
And all of it surfaced because my Love got sick very bad.

I chose presence over dogma.
Compassion over completion.
My own decision over following.
And since then, it changed how I engage & relate to my environment completely.

My partner and I are creating a video series about these turning points that changed our Life & shaped a movement we bring to life called Planet.108.

This is a /firstdraft script.
** The Farcaster Settlement ** (my /firstdraft )

I was talking to someone struggling to find their way on FC & wanted to give them an illustration of life here. And I wanted it to not only explain it but give them something to feel.

I like the Singapore illustration--low population, high GDP--but it's hard to feel. So, I said FC is like a group settling a new frontier. To me, this captures the positive-sum nature of FC. How does a group of people settle a new world? People find their roles in serving the greater good, serving the existence of the village.

It seems the people who have best found their way on FC, have found their role in supporting the village. A new settlement needs governing. Here, that's the FC team especially @dwr.eth & @v . It needs economic support & development. That's the biggest list here, but especially @jacek @betashop.eth @deployer . The village needs 'spiritual' or moral help like @july .

But it needs all kinds of people...
