Just managed to place an order for some Narragansett turkeys 😤 😤 😤 it's been hard sourcing birds this year - anyone keep birds for eggs or meat?
Icicle radish and lettuce from my only raised bed. Filled this one with homemade compost earlier in the year 🫡
Had ice dams built up on the roof of the /homestead. Water was coming into the house in multiple places.
Grabbed a snow rake to knock the snow down then went up and shoveled to uncover the ice dams. Spread some calcium chloride to get it to start draining. Should be good now other than a sore back. 😂👍

Fell a really nice maple on the /homestead yesterday.
Took off the limbs and cut the trunk back to below the branches. I’m left with a real nice log. Planning to get a portable mill after this bull market.

A little poker with some friends is a great way to kick off the weekend at the /homestead or anywhere really!

Moved the coop and added some structural support to the run today on the /homestead
Plasti-dipped a few ten footers with a rattle can so I could use them for ground contact. Should last a good while. Not “chicken ready” yet but getting close.

Made a temporary shelter for the almost grown chicks to stay outside. I’m glad to have them out of the garage.
Our goal is to finish getting their coop and run back together this weekend and move them in.

Getting some chores done on the /homestead today. Those damn chickens better be grateful! 🐥
One day, we will never have to punch a clock again. Until then, I cherish days off 😂

Had some fun on the homestead after clearing some land yesterday.
Zoom in on the green light coming off the back side of the house in the second photo. Trippy.

Willow made a friend today on the /homestead
We let a few milkweed plants grow near the back porch to attract Monarch caterpillars. This is the third hatched butterfly we’ve found this week and a few more chrysalises look ready to open! I love fall. 💙🍂💙🍂💙🍂

Been watching a few cocoons around waiting to see when they would hatch. One finally did today. Didn’t seem afraid of us at all. Monarch butterfly, Northern Michigan.
Got the chicken run disassembled and cleared a new spot for it. Going to scoop up the manure with the tractor and add it to the compost. 👻
Back to work on the /homestead
I want to move and reinforce the coop. Then scoop the manure and add it to the compost. Let’s get to work.
