Roots of Resilience: A Potato Family

“Roots of Resilience: A Potato Family,” I explore the metaphor of potatoes as symbols of family dynamics; representing father, mother, and child. This photograph effectively express the themes of resilience, adaptability, and the strength found in unity amidst life’s challenges.

Potatoes thrive in diverse conditions and soils, much like humans who demonstrate remarkable abilities to adapt and survive in various environments. They flourish even in harsh climates, overcoming difficulties while continuing to provide nourishment. This resilience reflects the human spirit, showcasing our capacity to confront obstacles and emerge stronger in adversity.

I Find My Freedom With Nature

We are constantly driven towards achieving 'minimalism', whether it is from our fears, our worries, our guilts, or our shortcomings. This is not simple as we express different attitudes and emotions in different circumstances. However, when we are able to reduce that 'clutter' in our thoughts, surroundings, and interactions, it is truly liberating. That is what struck me when I was making this image - the minimalism of the subject in the natural surrounding. They appear to be in harmony with each other, and at that moment there is no conflict within or without. This minimalism is also an expression of finding oneself, perhaps the best way to winning life.

"Take a look at the beautiful Nature Mirage—a scene where reality and illusion blend together so smoothly."

The sunlight dances on the clear water in this dreamlike picture, making a mesmerising play of reflections of sky on earth. Tall mangrove trees stand guard, and the way their spikes make the scene look like a dream. There are thin wisps of mist covering on the waterbody, which gives this nature show a mysterious feel. There is a brief moment stuck in time when the normal turns into the extraordinary and the beauty of the surroundings turns into a captivating mirage in the middle of nature's embrace.

“Let the bridge make the connection not the destruction.”

#GandhiJayanti2024

Mahatma Gandhi remains an enduring source of inspiration, his influence transcending borders and generations. In commemoration of his birthday anniversary, I embarked on a creative journey to pay tribute through acrylic medium. Using the vibrant colours, I sought to encapsulate the essence of this iconic figure, infusing the artwork with a kaleidoscope of colours to convey the profound emotions he continues to evoke.

Orangutans spend a significant time on big trees, resting or moving slowly through the canopy. While perched on branches, they often engage in behaviour like yawning, which may indicate relaxation, boredom, or simply be a way to stretch their jaw muscles. This behaviour is commonly observed when they are resting between foraging sessions or social interactions. Yawning, like in many primates, can also be a subtle form of communication, though in orangutans, it is generally considered a sign of a calm and tranquil state.

PULI KALI (Tiger Dance) is one of Kerala’s folk-art forms performing at Thrissur.

The artist begins the practise by shaving off all body hair. Then a skilled painter paints artist’s body with a single coat of paint prepared especially for him. After the initial coat dries, another coat is added to make the colours more vibrant, bright and realistic. It takes an entire day to transform a guy into a tiger.

Over the years, Puli Kali has become a popular tourist attraction. People come to Kerala in August and September to see this magnificent procession commemorating history, art, and culture. King Mahabali appears in the guise of these men to see his subjects full with joy and laughter and to shower them with even more of it.

PULI KALI (Tiger Dance) is one of Kerala’s folk-art forms performing at Thrissur.

King Mahabali was an asura. He was strong, muscular, and full of spirit. Tiger or leopard eventually became a metaphor for him. The history of Puli Kali can be traced back to the times of King Maharaja Rama Varma, the Maharaja of Cochin 200 years ago. He supported this huge Onam celebration.
Pui Pejulan, an old dayak lady who is about 76 years old, spends her days creating bead jewellery such as headbands, necklaces, bracelets, hats, and anjat (baby carriers). Since the 1980s, Pui Pejulan has chosen to live in Pampang Village with her four children and many grandchildren. Pui Pejulan also has tattoos on her body, particularly on her legs and arms. For elderly Dayak women, it is common to have tattoos on their bodies, which is different from the younger generation. The era of globalisation has influenced the mindset and lifestyle of the younger Dayak Kenyah generation in Pampang Village. They now have progressive thinking, with many pursuing education up to the university level. A significant number of the younger generation have chosen to work in offices, run businesses, or even work outside the island. However, they are still intact with tradition and cultural traits, some still choose to help their parents with traditional farming and agriculture.

The Princess Of Sumba

Once upon a time, in a faraway country, there lived a princess with a free spirit and a deep love of nature. She wanted to see what life was like outside the palace walls, so she dressed in royal clothes and got on her majestic horse. Together, they went to the heavenly fields, which were big and spread out, and the lush golden grasses there welcomed them. The princess enjoyed the beauty of the open fields as the wind blew through her hair and her noble horse galloped elegantly. She found peace in the quiet of nature and looked forward to the simple life that was waiting for her. She put her royal tasks aside for a happy moment and got lost in the beauty of the world around her.
