amazon just launched its first color kindle. love how colors look on the screen.

i am a big kindle user, but i didn’t like reading comics or cookbooks on it - what’s the point if you can’t see actual pictures. kindle colorsoft definitely changes the game.

any kindle fans here - what do you think?

hi @receipts team! is there a way to combine multiple workouts receipts in a day and share them as one?
i’m not sure about the accuracy of this ring, but not having to pay for an app or product that claims to need a monthly fee to show me my own data—while also collecting and using it to improve its accuracy—seems like a good product to me.

intern nerds at apple did a fun experiment to evaluate LLM’s mathematical reasoning capabilities. they created modified versions of GSM8k - GSM-symbolic & GSM-NoOp. In the questions they:

- swapped out subject and object names
- replaced numerical values
- added additional clauses relevant to the context of the questions, but irrelevant for calculating the answers (GSM-NoOp)

In case of only name changes, performance dropped by about 10%. In case of NoOp, performance dropped by about 65%

“We hypothesize that this decline is due to the fact that current LLMs are not capable of genuine logical reasoning; instead, they attempt to replicate the reasoning steps observed in their training data.”

have you tried eggs with kimchi? absolutely mind blowing!
every time i move to a new city:

stage 1: excitement overload: new city, new home, let’s revamp! selling everything for a fresh start—so many ideas!

stage 2: shop ‘til you drop: the market is full of cool stuff, time to buy all the things!

stage 3: regret & exhaustion: completely drained, maximum screen time on amazon app. why did I sell my stuff again? no more shopping, please!

and i never learn from my mistakes. this cycle repeats every two years
never thought i’d feel the joy of a first paycheck again, but here we are! thank you, @warpcast
just finished dark pools, and what a great book to learn about the history of algorithmic trading, and how dark pools came into existence.

thank you @zeentrain for the recommendation
my receipt submission for the /higher-athletics dance challenge. thank you, @chicbangs.eth, for organizing it!

i learned a short shuffling routine and recorded it. :)

also, what an amazing new interface, @receipts team—loving it!
poor posture not only reflects bad body language but can also lead to health issues. i’ve been working (inconsistently) on improving mine, and what I initially thought was just laziness turned out to be due to weak shoulder and back muscles.

visiting philadelphia this week, and i have to say—it is a beautiful city with all the architecture. i just wish it were safer to walk by myself. what happened here?
i wonder what these tech reporters have already seen that even a bunch of humanoids in action couldn’t impress them.

i’m at the GHC conf this year for work, and it’s surprising not to see even a single talk about decentralization or blockchain, with less than a handful about what people are building.

every session is either about bias in AI models or self-help. i wish there were more talks about what people are building and how they are using AI to solve different problems.

while I agree that we want more women in tech, the motivation comes from seeing how others are making a dent, rather than constantly talking about the issues.

when you live in PNW, even a slightly sunny day can bring so much joy and positivity
quite an interesting and fun article to understand why random variables are neither random nor variable. def check it out to find out -
- if 14 is a random number
- why it's no fun to play cards with statisticians

nearly every uber/lyft ride i’ve taken in seattle lately has been in a tesla. It feels like tesla is quietly positioning itself to dominate the taxi industry even before their driverless fleet hits the streets

i don’t smoke or drink anymore, but there’s something undeniably badass about a woman holding a lit cigarette and a glass of champagne.
too many countries are trying to attract tech by focusing too much on making visas easy to get and not enough on making themselves functional and livable. i believe that cities which prioritize functionality and safety, with low crime and a high quality of life, will ultimately thrive—but how many such places actually exist?

people visiting singapore and being spellbound by its appeal is a testament to the fact that while visa policies are important, the overall functionality and quality of life of a city are crucial for making a lasting impression.
interesting read about how math and science can make you feel stupid, but feeling stupid is required to make discoveries, learn about the unknown.

this is a year old but i just saw this and laughed a little too hard.
