@ledgerofficial just took over an old France telecom building, creative destruction is happening again in Europe because of crypto - Paris is partying tonight with style! 🍾
This! especially for peer to peer lending
1/ 3 Why it is important to crush spammers?

One big takeaway for me from the last Farcaster Dev Day is that to grow the network long term, we need to squash spam as it is directly (inversely) proportionate to account creation fees. Moreover, It seems also a recurrent theme now with user invites for the channels. Without mentioning that spam hurts retention of good users which is just common sense.

At @mbd, with our ML user scoring for users we estimate that there 5-10% of DAUs users that are spammy which way to high as you can imagine they have negative impact of their size! That's why we are doubling down on spam detection in a big way.

How?

Publishing our ground truth data, opening up labeling to all, OS finetuned ML models for other to run, pushing model features & results publicly (through Dune or some other mechanism), increase user coverage to other languages & working on new API integration with other providers.

Our work is cut-out for us but we need to get ready for the next wave of users!
Hardware is really hard.

My first VC backed startup in 2017 was a BCI or « brain computer interface » as a music headset - paired with an app that let you gave music recommendations to put you in a « the zone »

I lived in Shenzen china for few months trying to get a prototype of the ground - lost all the money on R&D even if using all the latest 3D printing techniques and being upstream in the supply chain - coupled with customer acquisition costs for crowdfunding etc it was dead in the waters.

In software you get dozen shots on goal and need 10 years to build really good products. In hardware you might get 3 shots and need over 20 years.

Excited to see more people try though !
gm! market highs before end of fall 🍁

Summer is over, your tan is coming off, kids are at school, your boss is busy fighting for budgets for next year, your getting bored…

Farcaster Dev Day Dinner in LA last week. Roundtable that lasted for hours wit Dan talking about everything from Farcaster future, web3 trends, tech, politics, nuclear energy, life philosophy and more.

First post on OnlyCast - latest Farcaster build out of ETHRome - well done @mattia 🙌
Joined my first V2 channel - UX in notification is clean! @dwr.eth @patxol.eth 👏
@mbd AI models for removing spam and adding ml ranking to the feed available through @neynar now 🔥
Where are my Python folks 🐍 ??
I was planning on attending this premiere in LA with frens today but had a change of plans! I have 4 tickets to give - first come first served :)

Just imagine a world where you can the exact content in the world you want, no ads, no bots or spam, no black box algo, or alterior motives... Just an AI that listen and adapt and that you can use to discover! https://youtu.be/zA2gahE5nuo
For someone just getting into hypersubbing, what are some initial good ones to support? open to recommendations!

Just used @mbd to find this gem https://warpcast.com/bakergracemusic/0xa4470aa
I think the next unicorn a social app will be rich media based with a feed you "swipe up" on not "scroll" à la @interface or @drakula that will use state-of-the art AI algorithm trained on both attention and transactions. But @alexmasmej.eth is right, the bar is too high for new social apps devs to build such systems. This will kill client diversity and heart decentralization long-term.

We need accessible AI systems for web3 devs to reach escape velocity. Heads down what I am building at @mbd - we will open source it and make it self-sustaining once everything is proven out. This is the lever to pull to push the whole ecosystem further.
@mbd just touched down in Singapore. Reach out to @parit.eth if you want to geek out about decentralised social x AI 🤖

How AI Algorithms work to build feeds? What if holding shared tokens influenced the home feed (great idea @nt!) is exactly the type of crazy stuff we should be experimenting with in web3 social - things that web2 can't.

But to build a shared understanding, I think it is important to explain how the "algo" building blocks work. I started on a first draft here, any feedback is welcome 🙏 https://www.mbd.xyz/blog/how-ai-algorithms-work/

PS: Stake weighted objective function is going to be needed anyway for decentralized training - happy to jam on this with anyone interested!
Welcome @parit.eth to Farcaster 💜 Give this man a follow - one of the great operators in the crypto space!
Nothing like seeing this guy in person to get you fired up and excited about building a better future. Made me realize how much the why matters as it is hard to lose sight of that when you are in the arena!

I remember clearly seeing a YouTube video about him talk about neuroscience and the centralization of the power of AI when I was doing my last year of studies in 2016. I dove into his biography that summer and decided to launch a startup. I was set on creating a brain computer interface built-in a music headset and have the inference run locally. Something about listening to him and reading about his story made me think I can go for such a crazy idea as a first startup! Seeing him go fund OpenAI and then Neuralink just made me realize that in he is truly in the arena and reinforced in me the desire to be an entrepreneur like him!

Fast forward to now, and he is taking on the same battles on social media as we all are in decentralized social: fighting censorship - nailing again the zeitgeist.
@mbd AI models are getting so good I go to our mini demo app in here to fetch new content from last month that I missed.

Ranking by reply & quoting activity is really great too as it gives a different way to look at what's happening! We should probably turn on again the filter to hide past interactions but big update coming soom too.

Always Invent then Simplify. Entropy stays the same, but you make room for the next thing. Learnt this at Amazon but it has root in design thinking and algorithms too.

Life is a balance and dance of Exploration then Exploitation. Even doing it randomly works. Doing it smartly like by being "greedy" or "optimistic" just sets you apart.

The geniuses have such good mental models of the world that they can simulate it way in advance, "monte carlo" it basically. This is Elon in the world of engineering. Vitalik with cryptography. Oppenheimer with physics, etc.

How are things after the simplification process @linda ? Curious.

No one told me there a freaking heat wave in LA right now… is this normal September weather?

btw, little lunch is still my favorite place around Venice.. taking recommendations for more (willing to pay using sweet potato cheese ball recipes - if you haven’t tasted one yet, you’re missing out 😛)

Should we hold platforms accountable for the user generated content? It is crazy that is happened which is very unfortunate.

Heard about this in the all in pod today, and Chamath really did a good job of explaining how these algorithms work and how they might be failing us (after all he worked at Facebook on this for many years and is building actively in AI right now). The whole section is worth watching if you care about these stuff: https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxji_X48HD53QBXwNn2zOSv_xrNCVocZsR?si=izG6O_E1e5e381ku

PS: is this the real @chamath on /farcaster ?! @dwr.eth @df
