Riddle me this:
The entire crypto market is pumping
Coinbase just announced theyโre buying Deribit (HUGE news)
But somehow $COIN has round-tripped the past 24 hrs, making ~0% gains
Genuine question: what the hell??
Most obvious answer: Coinbase missed earnings yesterday. ๐
Hereโs where $COIN let Wall St. down:
1/ Q1 revenue was down ~13%
Coinbase struggled to keep pace with its Q4 2024 revenues (~$2.3B vs. ~$2B) thanks to a broader drop in crypto trading volume in the start of 2025.
2/ Net income was down 95%
This sounds worse than it is.
Net income dropped from a record ~$1.3B in Q4 of last year, to ~$66M, yes โ but a good chunk of this was due to ~$596M worth of โpaper lossesโ Coinbase saw on their crypto holdings.
Riddle me this:

The more โboringโ a form of crypto adoption is, the more likely it is to actually happen.
I.e. Itโs not a flashy game or social app that will onboard the world, but an existing web2 app moving onchain (quietly onboarding people without them knowing it).
I donโt want this to be true! But I fear my theory could well be playing outโฆ

S&P Global and ISM Services PMI data - Monday - Two separate gut checks with the US services industry, gauging their spending (higher spend = higher expected economic growth).
U.S. March trade data - Tuesday - This reports the monthly balance of trade (exports minus imports), a key figure of concern in the current tariff battle.

Despite non-BTC funds not making much waves before, ETF news can still stir the markets. ProShares Trust recently announced the launch of three leveraged XRP ETFs this week, which temporarily pushed XRP to $2.30, up 3% on the day.
As May begins, analysts are also eyeing DOGE, historically a strong performer this month, despite a 1.9% dip to $0.1781.

This indicator is actually a favorite one in TradFi. It offers a clear, data-driven view of how the market is actually behaving โ not how Twitter thinks it's behaving.
If the financial conditions โ liquidity โ ISM formula tells us where we're headed, the Market Breadth indicator tells us exactly where we stand today.
โ๏ธ It's a handy tool to help figure out whether or not we're in an uptrending market, regardless of all the macro noise.
This indicator tracks how many stocks in the S&P 500 are trending up versus trending down.

Right now, the Breadth50 is sitting at 0.43, while the Breadth200 is at 0.37. That means 43% of all stocks in the S&P 500 are above their 50-day moving average, and 37% are above their 200-day moving average.
In simple terms: less than half of stocks are currently showing short-term strength (above the 50-day average), and even fewer are maintaining longer-term bullish momentum (above the 200-day average).
