Stars can “sing” - they produce sound waves inside themselves.
While space is a vacuum and we can’t hear sound in it directly, stars generate acoustic waves through internal pressure fluctuations, kind of like musical instruments. These vibrations cause subtle changes in brightness and surface motion, which astronomers study in a field called asteroseismology. By “listening” to these stellar vibrations, scientists can learn about a star’s age, composition, and internal structure-much like an ultrasound of a star.

When did I become so attached to my phone?
Did you know? The Sun is so massive that it makes up 99.86% of the total mass in our solar system! If the Sun were hollow, you could fit over 1.3 million Earths inside it. Despite its size, it’s classified as a medium-sized star, known as a 'yellow dwarf"
Our Sun is considered a 'yellow dwarf' star, but it’s actually white. Its light looks yellow from Earth due to the way our atmosphere scatters light.
The first image of a star on Earth was a daguerreotype photograph of Vega, taken in July 1850 by astronomer William Cranch Bond and photographer John Adams Whipple at Harvard College Observatory.
