Israel’s military is investigating whether Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in strike during operations in the Gaza strip.

Sinwar is the most significant Hamas figure still at large, and Israel considers him the “mastermind” of the deadly October 7 attacks that triggered Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza.

He has not been seen in public since the Hamas attacks and is thought to have been hiding in the vast network of tunnels worming their way under Gaza.

Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday released a summary of her medical records from her White House physician, who deemed her to be "a healthy 59-year-old female who has a medical history notable for seasonal allergies and urticaria."

The physician, Joshua Simmons, added that she's been treating her seasonal allergies with over-the-counter allergy medicines and that her urticaria — commonly known as hives — has been treated with "allergen immunotherapy (AIT) for the past three years."

Exactly 16 years ago, an impossibly young-looking Barack Obama was barnstorming through Ohio on a bus tour, electrifying huge crowds and emphatically closing the deal on his thumping 2008 election victory.

On another October night on Thursday, the 63-year-old ex-president was back on stage, with a vast American flag for a backdrop, trying to do for Kamala Harris what she’s so far struggled to do herself — put away the 2024 election.

The snowy haired Obama had swapped Ohio, which ceased to be a closely contested presidential state as soon as he left the White House, for this year’s potentially decisive state, Pennsylvania. That the hope and change prophet of 2008 is still his party’s most effective political orator four presidential elections later is an indictment of Democrats. But the urgency of his message in Pittsburgh told a more immediate story — his nemesis Donald Trump may be poised for an Oval Office return.
Israel’s security cabinet will vote Thursday on its response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack, an Israeli official told CNN. Earlier, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the retaliation would be “powerful, precise, and above all – surprising.”

• The White House gave no details of Israel’s planned response to Iran, after President Joe Biden held a “direct,” 30-minute phone call with Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu — their first conversation in weeks.

Kamala Harris’ visit to the border and speech outlining her economic vision captured the attention of a sizable share of Americans as September came to a close, according to new findings from The Breakthrough, a polling project that tracks how the public is following election news. Former President Donald Trump set the stage for a bruising final month of the presidential campaign during a return visit to the Pennsylvania venue where a gunman attempted to assassinate him this summer.

The trip was Trump’s latest to the Keystone State, which is shaping up to be the most pivotal in this election cycle. As the rally was ongoing, Trump’s campaign announced two additional Pennsylvania events the president would appear at in the coming days.

The upcoming one-year anniversary of the deadly terror attack on Israel by Hamas and continued Middle East turmoil could serve as motivators for acts of violence by extremists, the FBI and Department of Homeland Security said in a joint public announcement Friday.

When absentee ballots first landed on doorsteps in Michigan last month, so did Paul Hudson, a Grand Rapids lawyer and a Republican running to represent the area in Congress. Armed with an app that told him where likely voters lived and which houses might be swayed, he spent that morning walking a densely populated purple community where single-story ranches with Trump flags neighbor homes with “Harris Walz” signs on their lush, well-manicured lawns.

WASHINGTON — Even as polling shows the presidential race is a toss-up, Vice President Kamala Harris has been running with a measure of risk aversion that some Democratic strategists and activists worry has failed to fully capitalize on the excitement surrounding her entry into the race in July.

Until this point, Harris has largely eschewed freewheeling interactions with voters like town hall-style events or interviews with the media that could offer a sense of her authentic self and make people more comfortable with her abrupt emergence at the top of the ticket, these Democrats say.

Israel’s war cabinet is weighing its response after Iran launched its largest-ever attack on the country. Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon told CNN that retaliation “will be soon.”

• Iran’s military chief warned of broader strikes if Israel responds. People in Tehran are on edge, and fears of a wider all-out war between the two regional military powerhouses are growing. US President Joe Biden said he does not support a potential Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites.

• An Israeli strike in central Beirut killed at least six people early on Thursday. It’s the first time Israel has struck the area since 2006. Israel’s strikes have killed more than 1,000 people in Lebanon and displaced about 1 million residents since it escalated its war with Hezbollah.

Iran launched a missile attack on Israel Tuesday. Sirens sounded across the country as CNN teams on the ground saw dozens of missiles over the cities of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa.

• Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the attack focused on Israeli security and military targets and was in response to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and others.

• The Israeli military — which initially estimated about 180 missiles were fired at Israel — said the attack “will have consequences.”

• Earlier, the US said it believed Iran was preparing an imminent ballistic missile attack against Israel, following Israel’s launch of a ground operation in southern Lebanon targeting Iran-backed Hezbollah. Israeli officials described the ground offensive in Lebanon as “localized raids.”
