Been making a lot of projects with deadlines and I miss when I had a WIP that just....existed

Happy Microbial Monday!
Todays microbe is Alcanivorax borkumensis. This marine bacterium thrives on hydrocarbons—compounds found in crude oil—and rapidly multiplies when oil is present, helping to break it down and detoxify the environment.
It played a key role in the natural response to disasters like the Deepwater Horizon spill.

Warpcast is the first time in my life I've tried to post on a social media platform regularly...
As someone who isn't used to sharing bits of info or opinions online, I feel like I'm exhausting a lot of emotional energy crafting casts that will mean anything to anyone...

Today this little guy turns 12 and we've had quite the rollercoaster of a year. He's still such a happy silly guy and always gets mistaken for a puppy. He's putting up one hell of a fight with cancer and we are so lucky for every day we have with him. And now.. it's time for a well-deserved pupcup

Happy microbial monday! This is salmonella typhimurium and while you likely have a negative visceral reaction to hearing salmonella due to species that cause foodborne illness, this one is a big player in synbio.
S. Typhimurium is being explored for cancer therapy.
It can target and colonize tumors and actually enter the cancer cells. Once there, it has the ability to sense when it is inside and expresses only specific genes. Scientists use that to their advantage and can engineer it to selectively deliver a therapeutic payload or call forth the immune system. This makes S. typhimurium a great vector to deliver treatment that's much more targeted than something like chemo or radiation!

now I remember why I normally have two projects going at the same time...
one I can multitask with and one that needs my full attention
should not have picked a pattern that needs my full attention right now 🤣
