I understand that passkeys are useful to onboard users to web3 in a fast and simple way but I can't wrap my head around them 100%. If they are stored on iCloud or Google - that doesn't sound like self-custody to me.

I find them useful to have a fun and fast onchain experience - to play around - but I wouldn't have funds or create an identity or reputation with that wallet at all.
