Was it worth waking up before the sun? Absolutely. The iPhone isn’t great at nature photography from far away, but it’s absolutely Whale Wednesday in Okinawa! The humpbacks are here for another month mating and giving birth before they head back to the Bering Strait. There is no krill here for them to eat, but the waters are safe so they like hanging out here. I saw 4 of them jump today. Probably all males desperate to impress the ladies.

One very cold night, we went to a plain full of stones and razor blades far from the city to take pictures of this petroglyph with the Orion constellation.
I had to lie on the razor and the stone so that the subjects were behind each other, it was difficult, but the result was this photo, which was published in the Astronomy magazine!

there’s some really scary shitty things that have been going on for a long time.
for people like myself who have been harmed repeatedly, traumatically, things like the taking a shower or having the cold water turn on in the wrong way can make an impossibly shitty shituation seem far too unmanageable.
self care is perpetually glam-ified but I’m more interested in meeting you where you are.
which means, that naturally must also expand to include myself.
this is an inherent challenge to the systems that work around me.
real self care is meeting yourself where you are. 🫶🏻✨
