Pieces are starting to fall into place!

AgroShield, developed by Ensuro, Azzegura, and WeatherXM, is a blockchain-based agricultural protection system that helps Colombian farmers manage weather risks. Using smart contracts and real-time weather data, it provides automatic compensation for drought and excess rainfall, making coverage accessible and affordable for essential crops.

Maybe I should reconsider my expectation that DePIN needs to achieve some form of consensus.

But without consensus, we create a need to trust participants in the network, or a coordinator of some sort, which isn't what DePIN is about.

It's would be entirely impractical to expect DePIN devs to not use any off-chain components when designing these network applications. But then for DePINs to truly become trustless and permissionless, they would have to learn a lot from the design of L2.

Perhaps that is the endgame of every DePIN, a permissionless off-chain app-specific network, settling token incentives back to it's host blockchain. In other words, an L2.

I came across this paper in 2021 or there about, and it had an outsized influence in my thought process leading up to the formation of the M3tering Protocol 2 years later.

I may not agree with everything it says today. But I 100% would always agree that energy should be consumed in the form and location of it's production (or as closely as possible). Our energy infra would be much resilient, decentralized, efficient and environmentally friendly in this path, and that's the path we can take with DePIN for energy.
one year ago I talked about nosh being v impressive

today they blew my mind again, big vision

The M3tering protocol indeed fits some characteristics of a Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN), such as decentralization and physical infrastructure. But it raises some questions when it comes to whether it operates as a true "network" in the same sense as other DePIN projects such as /arweave, /weatherxm or /foam.
Unlike DeFi, a significant portion of DePIN activity can happen offchain ...and unless the DePIN has implemented and is reaching some forms of consensus, I would argue that DePINs need DA (data availability) as much as L2s

🤔 We currently use /arweave for this in the M3tering Protocol, a permanent log of all activity in the protocol, but for must projects (including M3tering), I think a @celestia or EigenDA might suffice.

Very excited about what David Vorick and the Glow team are doing to incentivize solar development. He gave a great talk on Glow's incentive structure and how it fits in the existing solar industry:

I dont't see a lot of people here talking about Wicrypt 👀
...are there no Wicrypt users on farcaster? 🤔
New UPS for our server will guarantee 30 minutes up time in case of an outage. This is more than enough time to safely turn off the servers safely to avoid corruption. One more step in the right direction for our home data center.
