As much as we can talk bad about the workings of these mega-corps in web2, youtube is a miracle which I thank God for every day, haha.

I love how my world is filled with art. Jazz is in the house today. 💙

Imo, creativity is the ultimate skill for anyone in our industry. AI and blockchain can handle tedious tasks, but they can’t imagine or build an entirely new world—nor can they learn empathy or forge genuine emotional connections that build communities.

This is one of the best songs I've heard from Justin Brown! These guys just killed this classic Charlie Parker song!

Resuming my contribution to this channel with a tune I just discovered recently, absolutely amazing piece of afro fusion jazz with a slight electronic touch.

last CD acquisition of the year is this wild album by jazz fusion composer and keyboardist Jun Fukamachi. he started experimenting with synths in the 70s and in 1989 founded the first synthesizer major as a professor at a Japanese university.

Quark (1980) is difficult to summarize but to me it is equal parts Alan Parsons Project, Pink Floyd, and Vangelis. there are glimmers of upbeat Japanese fusion bands like Casiopea but the clouds don’t usually part for very long.

wouldn’t recommend this one for casual listening, probably best served with some psilocybin or LSD.

I bought this on cassette in 1991 and literally wore it out. I then bought it again and again. What an incredible rhythm section.

Dexter's ability to just go and go in stream of consciousness was such an inspiration. Despite being very "inside" I think listening to these extended improvisations helped lead me to free/avant-garde music. Still grounded in this stuff.

New album on the legendary ESP Disk coming out in less than a month. This one is genre-bending with avant-garde jazzists like myself, indie rock royalties, and even a member of iconic rap group Public Enemy.

Fully improvised ambient/metal/jazz/funk/hiphop.

There's a (23 minute!) free preview track if you want to check it out.

Following from @thehilker.eth's Hanla Rani post, here's an example of where jazz (Don Cherry) and minimalism (Terry Riley) intersect.

Both legends and pioneers in their genres. I listen to this when I need to relax.

I was on a *strong* Hania Rani kick for a long time but recently drifted elsewhere. This might bring me back.

If you haven’t heard her, “Eden” is an incredible piece to start with.

(Heads up: this isn’t jazz per se, nor is it classical; not sure where else to put it so open to recs)
