this channel is for people to share their thoughts. treat it as a notes app!
Memes are intertextual and referential but Coins don't make these properties as legible as they could. When I see $horsephin I wish I could trace its evolution back to $horse and follow the network of references. Even better if attention and value could flow through it too.

Over lunch Claude & Perplexity convinced me we may stagnate culturally until the last of the Californians who didn't question Ayn Rand as young men pass away so the internet can renew itself, like a forest that needs burning

submissions: more than one submission will be reviewed, best entry wins it all (entirely subjective and up to me and the wisdom of the crowd)
have fun with it, make the meme local if possible. mock and honor your favorite farcaster people, cliques, projects and metas

actively developing an intuition is a powerful skill.
deep understanding of the basics + overview of practical use cases forms a certain intuition in that specific area. valuable when you need to act based on an incomplete information.

I'm basically accepting that if I'm not in a token in the first 20 minutes it launches I'm late and going to get dumped on.

I still occasionally go to Bluesky for some content niches but it sometimes feels like stepping back into the mid-to-late 2010s era of online discourse where ideological conformity was expected

i often just build small games or apps that i don’t see much potential in.
some stop at ideas,
some stretch to mockups,
some to interactivr prototype,
some to mvp
why waste time? i’m just trying to keep my maker spirit alive. unless i’m moving, i feel stagnant and irrelevant.

If you don't know what to do today, it's okay, you can do nothing, read a book, exercise, or learn something new. You don't need to have a task to do every day in your life.
it probably takes a minimum of 10 years to know if you’re actually a good investor or trader.
need to go through multiple cycles and normalize for luck.
this is probably also true for product, which is just a different form of investing.

I hope that last year’s update is my career all time high of midwit decision making.
There were a million reasons it made sense, and the fact that it needed a million reasons should have been the tell.
The original memo started at coins only but thought too much about it and hedged.
Never again :)

we tried a hybrid approach for almost 6 months and we quickly learned it was too complicated and that all of the superpowers of coins were directly held back by trying to combine models.
Hybrid model described here:

Short right wing populism
I am not ready to call long on the left populist response though
Biggest danger for a triumphant right is that the right’s political elites coasts under the veneer of their ‘populist’ mandate, and actually implement their agenda. The GOP veers sharply from their (newish) voters: not rly very populist, but clearly see a unique opportunity to cut long-hated programs they typically can’t touch because they are so…popular, esp. among their base. All these programs are vital to the survival of whatever remains of the working and middle class in America.
The political impact of culling stuff like Medicare, meals on wheels, medicaid, social security would be significant.
Pair that with the general weariness the culture seems to express about the culture wars. I mean… Dasha is 40+, and can the manhattan institute get anyone else to care about critical race theory who doesn’t already?
Of course I’m wary that dems seize the moment, but the current meta feels cashed

Long LSP and treesitter: they are *still* underrated in how impactful they are to the present and future of editor tooling. We're just starting to scratch the surface on what we can build with them. Here's things we haven't even done yet:
- We can build jq that works with any language works with treesitter, not just JSON.
- We can make a tool that generates control flow diagrams for any language.
- LLMs can use TS grammars to tightly constrain valid output, vastly reducing training costs and possibly model sizes.
- We can make plugins that augments tooling for any language that works with any editor (not just programming!), a lot of AI-assistants already use hooks like this.
- Agents can interface with language structures at a higher level (AST) rather than sending text diffs back and forth.
These two technologies began a golden age of editor tooling, and we're just getting started.

it is THESIS THURSDAY.
we did this last spring, we will resume it again now, cuz why not. it is pretty simple, you post a long and/or short thesis on something that is *not* a financial asset (regardless of liquidity, so you also can't like, long a startup for example). so it should be like, a trend or concept or something. ideally you add some reasoning to your thesis and it is sufficiently contrarian that there is still "upside".
