New ambiguous error code unlocked with my Vietnam visa application: "Reason: Passport data page incorrect (lack of ICAO information)"
Potential fixes I made to resubmit
- Improved passport image quality showing both pages (Top signature and bottom photo and info)
- Add passport number for "Identity Card"
- Edit "Place of birth" exactly as written
- Edit "United States Department of State" instead of "United States of America" for "Issuing Authority/Place of issue"
- Enter US number for "Phone number (in Viet Nam)"

The Vietnam e-visa application site has a nice UX update recently. If you're looking up your application status on the old site you might see the status as "No result found".
You can also save a link to the application status view after you've entered your info so that you don't have to renter it every time to check.

Although US passport holders need pre-approval for Vietnam visas it seems fairly easy with an estimated 3-5 business days to receive a decision. 🇺🇸🇻🇳
