I have always found lots of friends on Kauai, like when we were headed to the airport and found this turtle (maybe a slider?) trying to cross the street.
On the mainland, the general rule is to put them across the road in the direction they were headed, but since these turtles donāt belong on Kauai at all, I believe it washed out of someoneās decorative pond during a week of crazy rain and flooding.

Getting on the road to Kauaiās north shore to chase waves todayā¦ 30ā-40ā today, 40ā-50ā tomorrow.
They are running The Eddie tomorrow so thatās exciting, but I cannot wait to see what those monsters look like from my favorite spot to chase waves!

A Pineapple in Paradise treat for some big energy this Aloha Friday afternoon!
Happy Aloha Fridayā¦ we arrived on Kauai yesterday and traveled down the Tunnel of Trees to our hotel in Poipu!
Happy Aloha Friday from this sleepy Nene family at Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge... a great start to my Kauai trip, and the waves were definitely crashing yesterday. Big swell coming in this weekend, so looking forward to chasing waves!
ITAP of my new friend on Kauaiā¦ caught him to send a picture to my niece, and when I opened my hand to let him go, he opted to sit in the sun and pose for photos.
A super rare shot of a gecko drinking nectar from a Bird of Paradise flower, taken on one of my last trips to Kauai. Excited to be back today!
Iāve got some big energy to start this morningā¦ on the way to the airport for an interisland flight to Kauai.
8 years ago today, on Annieās birthday, I let her decide whether she wanted to spend another day on the beach chasing wavesā¦ and the rest is history!
(A couple walking by thought we might like a photo of us shooting together, so thatās pretty cool too.)

How about the stunning Multnomah Falls for todayās Water(fall) Wednesday?
ITAP of Wailua Falls on Kauai... just the right time of day to catch a rainbow spanning the pool!
A super rare shot of a Honu at Hoāokipa getting ready to ride the barrel!
Oakley flashing his wings after a wave splashed over his resting spot... looks like he's got the big energy needed to take flight!
I am a bit jet lagged from yesterdayās flight from JFK to HNLā¦ I could use a nap on the beach like Buster on this #MonkSealMonday!
ITAP of a baby monk seal... I'm back in Hawaii on #MonkSealMonday, and typically the winter is the time for big waves and whales, but I've heard through the coconut wireless that we do have a fairly new monk seal pup on the island (I'm not sure exactly how old yet), which is unusual this time of year.
Monk seal pup season is usually described as May to September, and most of our pups are born in that window... but the reality is they can pup any time of year. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to photograph the newest member of the Hawaiian monk seal family while we're in the islands.

Every now and then, I go into my archives looking for the original file for a photo I took a few years ago, and I stumble across something else instead.
First time I've shared this shot, taken in December 2020 when Pipeline was firing.

Looking forward to capturing some of that big air #SaturDave energy up at Pipeline... sometimes you can even see current and former world champions out there charging.
A super rare shot of #SaturDave getting caught in the collision between two waves at Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore.
I definitely have the North Shore on my mind... looking forward to being back on Oahu in just a few days!
Happy Aloha Flower Friday from the sunflower fields on Oahu's North Shore!
ITAP at Chun's Reef on Oahu's North Shore on a blue sky December day!
A gecko soaking up big energy from the sun... as cold-blooded animals, lizards don't regulate their body temperature, so they must sit in the sun to get warm.
A super rare moment with a skittish gecko peering over a leaf to see if it is safe to come out againā¦ took a little patience to get this capture.
A curious gecko tips its head as it looks out at meā¦ maybe it was curious about its own reflection in the glass of my big lens?
ITAP of a golden wave crashing on the reef in Kauai.
(This is the wave I was shooting when my wife took a photo of me standing on the reef, which I recently shared.)

Got that winter wave energy for Oahu's North Shore... my post-op visit with my surgeon went well, still some work to do on my range of motion, but he did sign off on me chasing waves as long as I stay on the beach.
No worries, Doc... I like to get shots like this from a comfy spot on the sand, and a big 200-500mm lens. Vaulted by @newlightvisuals.
