My previous job, which I left in 2022, was working for a relatively small gaming company based in Berlin. I was in the publishing side of the business, but it always amazed me how much cash the business could burn through to produce what I felt were very poor games. All of the focus was on graphics, rather than game play. The company went out of business in 2023.
I myself have not watched any of the 'Sonic' films — but given how good the reviews are of this third one, maybe I should give them a shot. This Tuesday, I'm going to see the Bob Dylan biopic, 'A Complete Unknown'. I'm not really a Dylan fan, but Chalamet's performance is getting strong reviews, so I'm going for that reason.
We are about six weeks away from the release of Civilization VII. Who else is EXCITED!? I will have no social life in February 2025…
Scientists propose that dark energy doesn't exist. Suggest that universe appears to be expanding at accelerated rate because time passes approximately 35% slower within galaxies (where we are) than within intergalactic voids.
I'm not offering financial advice but I will reveal what I've been doing the last six weeks: Buying up all clearly undervalued US-based crypto assets (if you can’t figure out what those are on your own, reconsider your presence in this space). The world of crypto will be totally transformed in three months' time. New retail money will be entering the crypto ecosystem, but it will be American money and it will be focused on tax-free assets.
The trailer for James Gunn’s Superman has been released. Gunn says his Superman will encompass all of the character’s mythology. He also compares the DC universe to ‘Game of Thrones’. Isn’t that what ‘The Boys’ is: superhero Game of Thrones? For almost two decades now, (since Christopher Nolan’s Batman films) DC has been following trends, not leading. Sounds like this iteration will be more following.
I think one thing the cinemas are learning is how to get MORE money from the people who frequent the cinema most. My favorite cinema has an excellent bar and bartender (his name is Peter!). They serve meals and have some theaters with tables that offer full service. They show concerts. They show operas. They show classic films. I probably spend $100/month at the cinema, and only 25% of that total is on actual tickets.
‘Sesame Street’ never belonged on Max. I’m glad this experiment of extracting profits from belovéd children’s programs failed.
I went to the cinema tonight to see ‘Heretic’ (Hugh Grant was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance) AND guess what? COINBASE WAS ADVERTISING IN THE PREVIEWS!?! In previous years, that would be a top signal, but with all the new legislation likely to appear in the U.S. in the coming months, I don’t think that’s the case now.

Variety has released a short list of the worst films of 2024. I haven’t seen any of them! (To be honest, I haven’t seen half of the BEST films, either). The closest I came was seeing the first cut of ‘Rebel Moon’; the director’s cut made this worst list (come to think of it, I think the original ‘Rebel Moon’ was released in 2023).
I thought last week’s finale of ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ hit a perfect tone. It’s good to see a show go out on top and not overstay its welcome. I’ve actually started a rewatch of Season 1, one episode per evening.
The Transformers Missing Link series is such a great development. I’ve ordered the Bumblebee and Cliffjumper figures as a Christmas gift to myself. The latest announcement is the preorder availability of Sunstreaker and Cordon figures. The Cordon is a collector’s dream come true.
A truly HUMAN experience of life means moments of solitude and solemnity. We didn’t evolve to be in constant emotional turmoil, contact, and conflict. These technologies exploit this evolutionary blind spot. Others are profiting from the destruction of your own human experience, the rarest experience we know to exist.
It’s that kind of Saturday in December, says Fritz. Time to take a nap near the fireplace.

Esquire magazine has named Wild Turkey Distillery's 'Russell’s Reserve 15' as its top bourbon of 2024, and as a native and resident of Kentucky (where all true bourbons originate), I care about that. A bottle of this Russell's Reserve 15 will set a person back for $250, retail, but I suspect, if you can find a bottle, you'll be paying closer to $500. Taking the second spot was the 'Four Roses 2024 Limited Edition Small Batch,' retailing for $220.
Good news! With the release next year of ‘28 Years Later’, the original ‘28 Days Later’ is being released on digital! I had no idea the original film had been so difficult to find for so long. I remember watching ‘28 Days Later’ in the cinema when I was living in Glasgow, Scotland in 2002z It was a thrilling and revolutionary zombie experience!
Yay! They will be showing 'The Brutalist' in IMAX in the U.S. in January. I will, however, be seeing it in December on the regular silver screen in two weeks, but will most definitely be seeing it again in IMAX.
