I’m still ruminating on this whole idea, but I see two main misconceptions contributing to this.
There’s other discussions going on about malaise seeing low effort get traction while talent languishes in obscurity and that’s partially informing my thinking, so I’m not calling out gdupi here, it’s just a convenient example.
The first issue I think, and I see this everywhere, is this obsession with “contents”. Contents, not works. Contents, not art. Contents, not games. Ad nauseum. Contents is boring. It’s this bland, mathematical distillation of human creation and effort into an easily cogitated vector, ultimately engineered to be consumed by an algorithm. And that’s why you think it’s slop; it’s not made for you, it’s made for the machine-spirits living in data centres who regurgitate it for you after tagging it with more meta-data.
