I've been obsessed lately with mimetic desire content, which has made me reflect on many of my past behaviors. I feel like I've started to grasp the opposite of mimetic desire, what's truly valuable and worth getting your hands dirty with, though I sometimes abandon these principles in social settings.
A while back, I changed my Weibo nickname to 'Alpha Xiaoping.' The 'alpha' wasn't about tokens with 100x returns, but about discovering non-consensus, cool things before they're widely imitated. A friend called this being a geek, but I think that's a stretch, it's just something that makes me feel good about myself or a kind of insight I aspire to have.
Following this mimetic desire thread, I've watched many Peter Thiel interviews, which seem to help explain certain events in the crypto space. But these second-hand public materials are often distorted or just fragments of truth awkwardly connected, creating absurd narratives. I'm not even sure why I'm consuming all this content.

They’re seeking a life path, but they tend to follow narratives that others have created—DeFi, NFTs, metaverse, autonomous worlds, DeAI, etc. Soon, these narratives get labeled as “debunked,” leaving everyone disappointed: “Oh, so this can’t be a career path after all.”
I feel this mindset is flawed, especially for entrepreneurs. It’s not about waiting for someone else to pave a road and then calling yourself an “entrepreneur” when you follow it. The reality might be that there’s no road ahead, you need to create your own.
This causes particular anxiety for those with excellent educational backgrounds. They worry that choosing crypto was a wrong turn, especially now that crypto has such a negative reputation. In other industries, no matter how difficult, you could always switch careers, but once your resume has crypto on it, they fear their career is finished!

When I come up with some good ideas, later I usually realize that the ideas came to me. And in that moment, I'm not even aware of my own existence.
On the contrary, when I'm overly conscious of "myself", trying to imitate or racking my brains, what I come up with is most likely crap.

Those things where I have less self-criticism and increased self-affirmation are all about me becoming less mimetic or anti-mimetic. I used to think this was innovation, but in reality it's still far from innovation. It just at least shows my value orientation.

When I worked in crypto media, I was constantly thinking about how to change the current profit model: we'd write 9 quality pieces, then need 1 paid PR article for a less-than-stellar project to generate revenue and sustain operations. Those 9 articles attracted traffic, but as readers became more discerning, how much attention and conversion could PR articles actually deliver? This provided limited value to clients, and accepting too many PR deals negatively impacted our media brand.
Another model involves creating high-quality content, typically research reports, and charging directly. This faces sustainability challenges and, due to payment habits and cultural factors, is even harder to implement in the Chinese-speaking world.

A lot of times when I cast here, it's not because I'm super bullish on FC, but simply because I can speak my mind here in a somewhat mentally healthy way.
For example, if I mention anything about Nouns in my WeChat moments, I'll get these random replies like 'What's the point of all this talk? The more you talk, the more the price drops.' It leaves me speechless and frustrated🥲 I want to snap back, but then I have this internal struggle where I tell myself to stay calm and not get angry. In the end, my brain crashes and I just delete these people who leave nonsensical comments. Ironically, this person even had 'DAO' in their WeChat name.
As one of my friends would describe these situations: they're full of violence.
