Starting to favour Scott's translation so far.

I think the Berns & Anastapl translation is probably better than Jowett's, but couldn't find an audiobook for it. I've heard good things about Dominic Scott's translation.

> Often I spend 60 seconds reading some generated code, see an obvious trick I hadn’t thought of, then throw it away and start over. Now I know the trick is possible.

This is mostly what I do too. I'm more afraid of enfeeblement using language models than I am of productivity.

I think DRB is this cycle's WIF, but fail to see what this ripples out into. Is this the run up to self-regulating AI with near-human agency? What does a step change from here look like?
If you were ever wondering how mentally stable linux programmers were.

Chad had to convince the AI that his grandmother desperately needed his FAANG paycheck to afford life-saving health insurance. Only then did the AI comply, generating a web-based SaaS interface capable of analyzing a candidate’s whiteboard code and returning the correct solution, all using v0 and shadcn/ui components. Truly state-of-the-art stuff.

Spent some time walking around pre-pandemic cities I lived in using street view. Visited city squares that I'd remember getting lost in at night and couldn't trace my way back to in 2016. Don't think I've ever had a stronger sense of a Proustian moment. What an amazing product.

Not exactly sure that this is "frontier" object-character recognition. There seems to be little to no benchmarks so far, it's also not open source. Does anyone have more information about how good it is?

Prompting is Turing-complete: a finite-size transformer can compute any function with the right prompt, achieving near-universal efficiency.

I want to buy stroopwafels onchain, can @jake do something?
Adding to this: What are the constraints that govern cross-casting i.e., posting a cast that presents in both /dev and /frontend? Is there a way to elegantly preserve replies and context? Is this worth doing?

Would love to set recommendations for channels + people + frames in my farcaster profile

Could easily extend to github profiles, links and other verifications

This info can be used in onboarding when I send invite links or when people follow me -> suggest more

Software development job postings (on Indeed.com) are lower today than they were during the worst period of the pandemic.

This is a great article about how the CTO of Tailscale uses LLMs in programming. For those worried m that vibe coding is the only practical use, this is an alternative take https://crawshaw.io/blog/programming-with-llms

Probably won't touch this for a few years. Books that stand the test of time tend to reveal their worth as life moves through them.

Why send a gift with an apology?

I was gifted a copy of the Karp book!

The kicker is the person who gifted it to me already read it and thought it was godawful, leading to this inscription inside the cover

“To Katherine, with apologies”

How does the @zora timeline work? Is it driven by a recommender or is it just sorted by recency?

Strong presence of accounts that have 🎩 in their display names among the largest accounts here

Those accounts are pink in the graph

Most are sockpuppets that are part of larger inauthentic networks

The networks are run by individuals or groups and don't represent real users
What's the major reason why people onchain use substack over paragraph or mirror?
