Before posting a bigger staff, I wanna share one repeated fraud scheme I’ve noticed lately on Farcaster with new tokens:
- Someone finds a project that’s about to launch (or just launched) but hasn’t released a token yet
- They create fake FC+X accounts with very similar names, and start reposting the original content for a few days
- Then they launch a token with Clanker
- When people check the token, it looks like it came from the real project’s account. Most don’t double-check and just buy it
I saw this happen recently with the $DUELS token, someone made a fake @duelsapps account, copied content from the real @duelsapp, and launched a token. Since the original account is also quite small, it was really hard to tell the difference.
There was even an attempt to spoof @reachbot too, but I caught it instantly because I track all shared mini-app links with my TG bot.
Seems like every app builder should start doing the same.

Well, I couldn't resist doing a bit more digging and it’s actually even worse than I thought.
A bunch of accounts (many bought at FIDs market) that are all clearly connected (not even trying to hide it lol) are launching clanker "dev" tokens with one-page websites full of promises in the past ~4 months. Some of these tokens get promoted by influential people, prices go up, fees collected, then... zero delivery, and everyone just forgets about them.
I'm not sure what to do with this info. Should I point out the obvious stuff - account transfers, transactions, deleted casts, shady contracts etc? It could be a good twitter thread haha

Not the first time noticing this - scammy-looking tokens get launched and even experienced traders end up buying them. Just a reminder that it’s always good to DYOR.
For example, saw a few traders bought a new Clanker token here, but after a closer look, it’s 99% fake:
- The launcher account only started posting ~10 days ago, trying to look like a dev account
- Not followed by any reputable users here
- No other socials linked
- Somehow has 1K+ followers on FC (that's probably why token is pumping)
- The project is a 1-page website with a few lines of roadmap
Since it's a clanker token, it's probably "safe" to buy and you might even make a profit. But it's interesting to see how easy it is to spin up a fake account here and make money off it (creator already made >$1.5k from fees).
