Today is the birthday of one of my favorite magnum photographers, Harry Gruyaret. He is a master of color photography and one of the pioneers to make it popular in the 70’s and 80’s.

Sharing a good interview with Harry for those who are not familiar with his works. So check it out.

God Inc I & II - Carl De Keyzer

Carl De Keyzer’s seminal project God Inc interrogated the powerful grip of religion observing everything from the most routine and ordinary expressions of faith to the spectacles of Christian plays and KKK rallies, the project documented the often-bizarre rituals associated with, as well as the politics underlying, religion in a context where faith has existed in its most commodified form in the world.

Excellent book.

Under a Grudging Sun - Alex Webb

Alex Webb is any street photographer’s inspiration. There will be an element of that influence in your photos for sure. What he is famous for is the way he uses complexity in his framing, strong colors and amazing light n shadows. This is one of my favorite books of his. His earliest works taken in Haiti.
End Time City - Michael Ackerman

I ve been collecting photo books based on India by international photographers to understand how they saw my country from an outsiders point of view. Out of this my favourite book is by Michael Ackerman, his first book on the famous and holy city of Varanasi.

Varanasi is considered as the mecca for street photographers from all over the world and hence it is oversaturated in terms of imagery. But End Time City is a different and unconventional approach of visuals of the place. It has a nightmarish surreal type of moments where ghostly figures pass thru the frames.

One of the best and inspiring book based on India.
