Trump’s been in office for a few months, but there’s still nothing real to show unless you count his endless “winning” speeches. He talks about meetings with mystery Chinese officials that no one, not even the Chinese seems to know about. And that awful “deal”with Russia. A masterclass in geopolitical cuckery. So he’ll likely stall the decision, hoping not to dig a deeper hole.

I bet Putin now thinks he can get more from the US than from Ukraine.
Bringing things down now, getting sanctions off, Crimea, land.. Getting naive/corrupt US admin to build up and modernize russia's oil/gas/minerals extraction, get US investment.
He can get all that from Trump.
Later, once the russian military is stronger, he could resume his goals in Ukraine…
