Was checking the portfolio of Onformative, a Berlin studio for digital art and design founded by Cedric Kiefer and Julia Laub, 2010. Old friends.

Love that they have a feed of sketches and random outputs from on-going projects. https://onformative.com/feed
Subvert.fm looks interesting. No idea if it’s solid or if it’ll be a success, but user-controlled services are overdue for a resurgence.

(Also, they have a delightfully are.na-like zine as a roadmap.)

"Poor Artists", book by The White Pube - the art criticism collective of Gabrielle de la Puente and Zarina Muhammad.

Sounds entertaining, intersectional to the max, and postmodern af. Fictional characters, monsters and ghosts? Clearly not Clement Greenbergs art criticism.

A friend pointed out my recent posting about my Towers series on @rodeodotclub was a bit confusing. Wrote this in a comment:

These renders I've been posting as teasers represent my process working with 3D models as source material. Iterating different visual treatments (some serious, some ridiculous) is me finding a satisfying approach to the form.

Faux architecture or candy-colored kitsch? Maybe brutalist monument?

The plan is to release Towers as a series of rendered images, but importantly also as interactive GLTF models - my first serious foray into distributable 3D content. 🔴🔴🔴

The Hydrant Directory by Day Lane is a sweet project that provides index of fire hydrants that have been decorated by street artists or local residents.

Each hydrant has been 3D scanned (Polycam) and is viewable online with its GPS address, an interactive 3D model and a color palette based on the scan.

Great use of GLTF! ❤️ https://dayroselane.com/hydrants

Posted: Two versions of Tower 0007B-02D, one monochrome for #monochrome-monday, the other as decadent pink as ever.

These are process pieces, just sketching. The final presentation of the Towers series probably won't look anything like this.

Note: Verse Talks speaks to the perspective of Verse and its collectors, not always easy listening for struggling artists. I appreciate them putting it out there, nonetheless.
Enjoyed listening to the (exhausted, exasperated) @verse pod about Botto. A 1000-token long-form collection of AI-generated variants of basic Perlin noise sketches produced a volume of $364k, and everybody is upset.

Why is this a surprise to anyone? We’re seeing an extreme long tail market economy where most artists can’t move any work, no matter how laborious or exquisite, but collectors ape into a project that hovers between conceptual art and bare jokes.

You can like Botto, but you can’t expect starving artists to share your enthusiasm. 😝
Alberto Biasi (Italian, b.1937) - Dinamica 62, 1973, screen print

Art doesn’t come with guarantees with fame or riches, but know that you’re immediately accepted into a family (yes, dysfunctional)of people equally dependent on making art.

If we could not make art, why would we? Why stick with it after the first few awkward, lonely moments?

Was happily rendering away when someone pointed out the series I’m working on should be actual GLTF models. Which I can’t disagree with, but now I’m stumped finding a good approach to textures that feel elegant.

Any tips? @auriea? 😅

Critical phase of any render project: Evaluate consistency in style, form and color. Looks like I have less than 10 unique SysTower models. Their principles of construction diverge a bit, some end up spindly annd steampunk-like.

Love these animated assemblies @v4w-enko has been posting on Rodeo recently. It's like Memphis Group, Bauhaus and 80's CGI did a stylish collab.

Would make great screensavers or ambient visuals on screens in public spaces, and I mean that in the best possible sense.
