a narrative r&d studio helping founders shape the ideas that shape us

@vgr says a successful place provides catalytic context for missions. if products and ideas are “places,” that means a founder’s purpose is to help accelerate users on their mission.

agency is the KPI
I’m calling the top on “storytelling”
Native: a context design studio
@miniapp i want to have a frame that displays the word "hello world" inside it, with a button that the user can tap and add a number to a counter
Businesses will become more price sensitive overnight, which will rapidly accelerate the adoption of:

(a) AI-powered workflows,
(b) onchain payment rails, and
(c) fractional/part-time contributors

Could be a tough couple of years, but good time to be an indie.
Had the pleasure of working with @fffflood over the last couple of months on a /native rebrand.

Native partners with ambitious founders to ground work within a compelling narrative that gives your users something to believe in. We root your company with great ideas while pushing forward what's possible through exceptional writing, thinking, and getting in the weeds day-to-day to grow your business and improve your product.

The stacked forms in the logo take inspiration from steps, pages, and building blocks, representing the foundations we help create and a path forward.

Lately, I think about my work as a "GTM role player" – I plug in, lay key foundations, and then help level up your company. I think this is a great reflection of that direction.

More to come, but really excited to get this out into the world. Much love to the goat @fffflood.

Working with great people is raising my ambitions. I feel like I can do more with less, and reach heights in 6 months that I didn’t think imaginable in 6 years.
Bedrock is one of the projects that I can *only* work on because the way the way that I’ve structured my work and life through Native.

Very grateful to be a part of networks that trust me and have so many friends willing to give me a shot.

This time next year, I think we’ll look back and view Bedrock’s first few months as a turning point for the energy and culture onchain.

Accelerate the renaissance.
Almost a year since going indie. Gonna write a recap post soon.

What do you want to know?
The single most important thing I’ve done for my learning is to assert my vector.

When people know what my thesis is and what I’m working towards, relevant information just seems to find me. Your network becomes a personalized curation machine.

Personal knowledge management has moved from fad to meme to one of the most important things you can do for yourself in this new tech environment.

The winners of a world of LLMs are the notetakers.
Instead of figuring out “how to invest in startups as a venture contributor,” I feel like I should just be giving out small grants to bootstrapped projects that I love or want to bet on.

Giving away money probably has better returns in the long run vs. angel investing.

Indie consultant -> venture contributor

I think I’m sold on the term
Starting to think my dream for /native is to scale horizontally rather than vertically.

I don’t want to hire a team. I like being indie. I can maintain flexibility to work on what I want to work on, charge what I want, and not be responsible to anyone but my clients.

It would be cool, though, to have equal partners who have complementary skillsets to work alongside. They have their own book of business, I have mine. We collaborate on some projects. We share profits. We win together.

Pentagram style, but for all different kinds of consultants.

I think the relationships need to form organically, though. Can’t go out and hire a partner for your life’s work — they gotta come to you.

What should I write about this week? I’ll pump out a screenshot essay.

Writing Update

Last week I published The Age of Agency and Native to Our Built Environments (which was originally called “The Network is the Product”)

This week, I’m publishing the final essay in the series re: agency and networks, and then digging into three more essays (titles TBD):

1. Farcaster is a…
2. Attention-based Bootstrapping
3. Permeability Accelerates
