Ubud Rice Terraces, Bali

A Masterpiece of Nature and Culture
Nestled in the heart of Bali, the Ubud rice terraces are a breathtaking testament to the island's agricultural heritage and natural beauty. As one of the world’s top producers of rice, Indonesia owes much of its economic prosperity to this staple crop, and the rice terraces in Tegallalang are a shining example of the intricate Subak irrigation system that sustains them.

These verdant, cascading fields stretch across the landscape like a green tapestry, captivating visitors with their symmetry and serenity. Time your visit during the planting or early growing season, and you'll be greeted by a sea of vibrant green, perfect for photography and reflection.

Beyond their beauty, the terraces are vital to Bali's economy and culture, representing the harmonious balance between humans and nature. Exploring these iconic terraces offers more than just a visual treat—it’s a journey into the heart of Balinese tradition.

Today I share religion tradition of finger cutting or lkipalin which is a form of mourning and expression of grief in some indigenous cultures of Indonesia, particularly among the Dani people of Papua
In Dani culture, finger cutting is a way to show respect and mourning for the deceased, particularly for close family members or loved ones.
When a person dies, the grieving family members, usually women, cut off a portion of their finger as a symbol of their sorrow and loss.
The cut finger is then buried with the deceased, and the wound is left to heal on its own, often leaving a visible scar
This tradition is believed to have been practiced for centuries, and is a significant part of the Dani people's cultural and spiritual heritage.
However, the Indonesian government has been working to discourage this practice, citing concerns about health and human rights
It's worth noting that this tradition is not widely practiced in Indonesia, and is mainly confined to certain indigenous communities in Papua.

"Health is Wealth":

Health is the greatest welth Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live. Wealth is not his that has it, but his that enjoys it.
Health is the thing that makes you feel that now is the best time of the year -
A healthy body is a guest for the soul; a sick body is a prison. The greatest wealth is health.
To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear. Buddha

What makes the Christian /worldview unique to other worldviews? Christianity doesn't locate the problem with the world in any part of the world or any particular group of people. Instead, the problem with the world is found in sin itself -- which infects EVERYONE. The solution to the world's sin problem is found through God's grace. Other worldviews identify problems that separate the world into villians and heroes and finds the solution in something that isn't powerful enough to solve the problem.

The Christian storyline or worldview is: creation plan fall redemption and restoration .What's incredible about this worldview is the solution isn't based on an imperfect person's actions Having the gospel /worldview should affect everything in our lives, including our work.

What are some /worldview you see in your field of work? Next week, we're going to look at how the gospel can impact various fields including business, journalism, higher education, and medicine

/Worldview The world is in some essential sense a construct. Human knowledge is radically interpretive. There are no perspective-independent facts. Every act of perception and cognition is contingent,/worldview mediated, situated, contextual, theory-soaked. Human language cannot establish its ground in an independent reality. Meaning is rendered by the mind and cannot be assumed to inhere in the object, in the world beyond the mind, for that world can never be contacted without having already been saturated by the mind's own nature /worldview
