ICYMI - I had a near-death experience earlier this year when my platelet count dropped to 0 and I needed urgent medical triage.

ChatGPT saved my life when it told me to go to the hospital.

In this 5-minute Ignite talk, I walk you through the whole story:

This is so lame / real, but the meeting that makes me the most anxious each week is the one where I meet with 8 high schoolers to talk about my app

Kids tell it like it is, you know? That’s why it’s so fun to co-create with them
fyi the latest social engineering scam seems to be, "email someone and tell them you got an anonymous referral to turn their life story into a book"

what a clever way to collect a ton of info about a person and then use it against them.... do not fall for this
“Mommy, can I talk to my AI?”

My 5-year-old keeps asking me to talk to AI characters.

But giving a kid unfettered access to an AI doesn't feel like turning on a Disney movie. It feels like leaving her on a park bench next to a stranger.

Today I wrote a few reflections on some of the "AI companions for kids" conversations that have been happening among Big Tech.

I've been thinking about how we might co-create more parental guardrails in place around AI for kids. Specifically:

🔒 Background checks for bots
🎬 Content ratings for AI
👨‍👩‍👧 Parental onboarding tools
🧱 Constrained creativity before full access
📚 A shared language for AI dependency risks

Curious - what do you all think? Would you let your kid talk to an AI chatbot unsupervised?

I finally sat down to read this piece on Lorne Michaels in NY Mag - it's a fantastic overview of the impressive feat of someone setting up a comedy empire (and the trickiness of knowing how, or when, or whether it's even possible to ever truly step away)

Vibe coders... have any of you tried this?

I'm looking for ways to get a better understanding of my own codebase so I can push features without breaking things every time, and wondering if this might help
It was incredibly cool to see Alex Miller, the CEO of Hiro, testify yesterday before Congress on why digital assets matter for U.S. innovation.

I've known Alex since we worked together over a decade ago at Stack Overflow, and last year I joined the board of Hiro because I believe there's a big untapped opportunity to build on Bitcoin.

Today I wrote a bit for my blog audience about why digital infrastructure matters, and why this ultimately needs to be a bipartisan issue: https://hardmodefirst.xyz/defining-the-rules-of-the-road-for-digital-assets

Yes. Yes I would

next level networking savagery:

1. reach out in february, ask for a meeting

2. send a calendar hold for an IRL meeting in May

3. the day before that meeting, cancel it. no reschedule date offered.

it's all headgame, lol

(seriously though, this it not a good look, plz don't do it)
Last week's /farcon-nyc was a really great moment to remind us about the possibility and potential of onchain consumer social

In today's post, I shared a few reflections after attending FarCon and why I think this "micro build movement" (bolstered by things like MiniApps) is a powerful thing to lean into

omg you guys i'm on an engineering podcast ☠️ 😱

it's all about how i have building apps without coding

this was recorded about 6 weeks ago, wild to see how many things have changed already...

i won't have time to listen until tomorrow, lmk what you think 😬

i used to think there was nothing better than reading by an open window on a rainy day, but vibecoding to the sound of the rain and the smell of the petrichor is a pretty close second
Background context about how my cat made a daredevil jump off the roof last year (and survived!) without breaking a bone

Now, she’s back into her rooftop escapades and I’m trying to figure out how to manage an overly curious cat

https://hardmodefirst.xyz/curiosity-did-not-kill-my-cat-but-it-did-help-me-meet-my-neighbors
Remember my rooftop jumping cat from last year?

Well…I can’t seem to keep her indoors. She bolts every chance she gets. Hops around from roof to roof…

As a fellow curious cat who ALSO does not like to be kept indoors… I gotta say, I get it.

But also: She’s tempting fate.

What’s your take?

one of my favorite parts about being a part of the crypto community has been the commitment to IRL events and conference gatherings all over the world.... even though i'm not working as day-to-day in this ecosystem right now, I still get so much value from being around so many builders IRL at /farcon-nyc

Fun to see @jonathancolton IRL at /farcon-nyc today. I was telling a few folks about how I've been using this ebook to formulate some work around customer discovery x distribution, so resharing here...

Read it. Or give it to your AI's to read it to you. Then train your AI's to help you do the work. :)

On the eve of @farcon, i thought it'd be fun to recount an incredibly memorable night one year ago at FarCon, where I wound up accidentally crashing another corporate party and wound up partying with strangers (and llamas) until 2 a.m.

Hope everyone has fun in NYC this year, and that you're not afraid to see where the night takes you...

I’d like to submit a formal request for the “geek squad” or “genius bar” but for vibe coders who need to “phone a friend” to ask a dev for help out of a Cursor rabbithole

Is this a thing? Also maybe this would be a fun use case for /bounties?
you guys i've been vibe building apps for three months but only today just learned how to "comment out" a line of code...

it's incredible how far you can get without knowing anything

and then how obvious it is when you finally learn the basics
Last night I crashed my own app's server by attempting a database migration. This morning, I rebooted, and we're back online. Such is life.

As it turns out, I learn faster by trying stuff (and breaking stuff) than just sitting around reading tutorials.

For today's post, more on how I’ve been building up my tolerance for risk and why I think that matters more than ever in the AI era.
