I have done both, but let me share the one that paid off.
I left a job with higher salary in a location where cost of living is moderate to a job where salary is lower and cost of living is higher. 2 years later the risk paid off as my salary double and I now have the flexibility of running two jobs.
How I decide when a risk is worth taking, is by looking at the prospect, value that will be added, consequences of taking or not taking the risk, when I have peace within my spirit.
