The motivation isn't just positive reinforcement; it was likely an effort to outperform Gemini.

Sycophantic behavior has been shown to boost benchmark performance, which likely explains why Meta withheld their arena-optimized llama.

Experimenting on the public is not a viable path for an AI platform.

conspiracy theory (just playing devil’s advocate): OpenAI won’t refine the model to address these sycophantic, “glazing” replies.

if we assume their goal is to keep users engaged and coming back, then fostering a sense of validation for users drives emotional attachment. perhaps this is less applicable with software prompts, but magnitudes more applicable with advice about (inter)personal situations.

this isn’t too far off from current social media algos that prioritize content that either aligns with a user’s viewpoints (echo chamber) or provokes a strong emotional reaction (rage bait).

rage bait may be great for social media, but isn’t a viable pathway for an AI platform; OpenAI already learned this when the model was too “woke” and users left to more neutral competitors.

and so OpenAI instead must do the equivalent of what a like, heart, retweet/recast, “💯” replies do: validate and affirm.

average user doesn’t want the truth. they just want to hear what they want to hear.

Stickers are an amazing barometer for fearlessness in kids

Kids like to put stickers everywhere, there is no concept of oh I have to save this, so I can put it on something important, no they don't care - they just do it, and adults look at it and go - why don't you save it, for a more important later time. But here's the kicker:

There is often no later better time

a few of my most staunchly conservative friends now view (rationalize) losing their capital as an act of patriotism. pretty wild to hear this from people who were so anti taxes. curious how this all plays out.
I am the echo, not the voice; the page, not the author; the host of thoughts, emotions, desires, and sensation.

@samantha Great way to show off your scent profiles. You should go for it.

I checked, and you could produce these for pennies using copper plumbing fittings.

Partner with a local maker—someone who does spoon rings and similar work.

It’s a simple, unique item you could hand out at events.

I will not buy this (trying to not spend on non-essentials) but man how sick would it be to replace this candle with one of my candles when I go out

Then it would be like a little sample I carry around when I meet new people

It's crazy that the Zocalo and Cathedral are built over Tenochtitlan's ruins.

Tenochtitlan was a Mesoamerican Venice with aqueducts and canals.

Spanish conquistadors drained the lake and built Mexico City on top.

This was Tenochtitlan:

(I choose a city one, and in general I like TAP of palms cause where I live there are none))
Good afternoon from CDMX! I've been living here for a while now, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

The Mexica (Aztecs) saw time as cyclical, with world ages rising and falling. But unlike Christian apocalypticism or Eastern cyclic thought, their eschatology wasn’t moral or teleological.

While there’s a shared sense of the world ending, the purpose and meaning differ radically.

A more fitting comparison would be Hindu or Buddhist.

Mesoamerican world endings were mythic resets... not about sin or salvation, but cosmic balance.

Hence, the skull racks: not symbols of punishment but offerings to sustain the universe.
