The bookstore I’m at asks customers to write literary quotes that changed them. And this is mine.

“I liked my books and clouds and sunsets.”
“If we cannot imagine something, it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible.”

Not the specific point of the article, but this quote from a scientist jumped off the page at me. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-024-03244-1
The unreasonable urge to post political content as if it impacts the outcome of the election.
1954 paper about how scientists reanimated cryogenically frozen rats using the same technology found in microwave ovens. You’re welcome https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1365902/pdf/jphysiol01396-0132.pdf
Two thoughts:

1. I never knew I cared about microwave oven tech until reading this
2. For as bad a rap Americans get for their focus on convenience, that focus has led to some pretty amazing pieces of tech

Once upon a time I used to write about baseball. This interview was the result of my first phone call with a professional athlete. I was terrified during that call. https://friarsonbase.com/2012/01/27/interview-with-former-padre-dirk-hayhurst/
I don’t trust anything that happens with blockchains anymore. Every “massive” partnership seems to turn out to be the chain paying for partners to use them. So I’m suspicious of how this happened. https://decrypt.co/285896/avalanche-shooter-off-the-grid-becomes-top-free-title-on-epic-games-store
Galveston is a criminally underrated book by the creator of True Detective. I’m reading this for the second time and I can’t get over how good it is. https://a.co/d/bZyabpA
This is such an incredible talk. Cabel is the goat. https://youtu.be/Df_K7pIsfvg
The Blackstone remains one of our best investments
Every year I thank the gods of film for Blumhouse and a24. Without them, I don’t think we’d have any good horror.
Being a Padres fan is hard
But it now appears there could be dozens of potential ocean worlds in the inner and outer solar system. That finding is “one of the most profound discoveries in planetary science in the space age,” S. Alan Stern of the Southwest Research Institute and head of NASA’s New Horizons mission

I just got a call from a plus sign.
Distributed sync engine via IPFS and Base. Pretty sick 🔥
Read The Given Day by Dennis Lehane a long time ago but couldn’t find my copy. So I picked up a new one. If you’ve never read it, it’s one of my favorite pieces of historical crime fiction.
My grandfather wrote this book about his great grandfather and there’s a story in there about George Hunter tracking down an outlaw crew who murdered 8 people. The crew was run by a woman and made up largely of women and I find that fascinating.
This is the first time in months that AI has actually impressed me. The output from NotebookLM is really impressive. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/10/07/google-ai-podcast-notebooklm/
I always think about this article when I think about Eric Hosmer. It takes nothing to be nice. It takes effort to be a dick. https://tht.fangraphs.com/learning-the-language-of-the-clubhouse/
I love how Epic is going to be the one that creates game assets that are portable between different games even though that was the big rallying cry and selling point of NFTs during the boom. https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/5/24262376/epic-unreal-engine-6-fortnite-metaverse-plans
I was just at a bar where the majority of the bar was cheering for and focused on baseball. All the TVs were on baseball. I’ve never experienced this before and I think it might be heaven.
