Father and son!
Capturing the essence of Dasara in Kulasekrapatinam was magical. Amid the festive chaos, I spotted a father carrying his young child, adorned as a local deity. The child, no older than five, wore a dazzling costume and vibrant face paint, exuding both innocence and divinity. As I raised my camera, the child’s curious gaze met mine, radiating joy. I clicked the shutter, encapsulating the love and tradition shared between them. The sounds of drums and laughter surrounded us, reminding me that festivals are about connection and storytelling, transforming fleeting moments into lasting memories.

ITAP - The Flame!
Covering the Kulasai Dasara festival at Mutharamman Temple was a whirlwind of color and emotion. As I snapped photos of the vibrant procession, I was captivated by the devotees adorning themselves as Goddess Kali, their fierce expressions and intricate costumes adding intensity to the celebration. The warmth of the community enveloped me as I clicked candid moments of families sharing laughter and sweets, their joy infectious. The energy of the crowd pulsed through me, especially during the traditional dances that honored the goddess. Each shot I took felt like a piece of their devotion, and I left with my heart full of stories to tell.

The RARE theyyam
It was about 3.30am in the morning. My body clock was already disturbed after several long nights photographing Theyyam ceremonies at different temples in the Kannur region. My firiend had informed us that this night we could expect to see the Theyyam who embodies the spirit of the warrior god Kandanar Kelan - the god who leaps through flames.
.
An enormous fire was already ablaze in the middle of the temple compound when we arrived, and assistants were raking red hot embers into four neat piles next to the burning logs. The crowd jostled for position on the concrete steps to one side of the temple. I managed to work my way to the front, despite the uncomfortably intense heat of the fire. I felt a little apprehensive; flying embers, the unpredictable behaviour of a Theyyam in a trance, and getting caught between the fire and the crowd with nowhere to move were all potential concerns. The First Light
Chitkul at first glance gave us a feeling of time travel, way back into the past. The village has no cell phone coverage, No ATM, No market but a couple of home run shops selling basic necessities. After a long search, we boarded an old house turned into guest house but it was quite creepy. Our eating options were very limited to handful of dhabas and restaurant that serves maggi, rice and dal and I recalled that memories in Chitkul was lingering around my mind and it seems like never fading moments that one has to experience.
